Don't know if this is the best thread for this but the question of cool and affordable accomodation in NYC has come up many times on the forum. I just want to point out that the NY branch of Ace Hotel just opened and, as its siblings on the west coast, has a range of rooms that start from very affordable rates ($99 for the smallest rooms, I think)
The Barclay and the Grand Central Hyatt are popping up on Priceline for $110-120. Both nice 4 * hotels. Check what bids are being accepted at www.biddingfortavel.com, Cheap eats: $3.50 banh mi at Saigon Banh Mi 120 Mott Street (possibly the world's best sandwich). Katz's Deli for pastrami and matzoh ball soup. The Met and MOMA are both phenomenal museums and a great value.
