I am buying a tuxedo that I will be wearing to 3 weddings in the next few months. All of them are black tie.

I've been searching and found a few options. Such as RL, Brooks Brothers, Sid Mashburn, SuitSupply, or custom. I find it difficult to buy a suit that I may only wear a few times a year. I'd like half-canvassed jacket that will hold it shape.

Is a nice tuxedo something I can wear for 5+ years, or are the trends constantly changing? Since this is my first tuxedo, is it best to buy an inexpensive one from H&M/Suit Supply. Or is it best to invest and buy a nice tux from RL or Brooks Brothers.

If you buy something with extreme proportions (super-wide lapels or super-narrow lapels), it will look bad when that trend fades. If you buy something that is classic and middle of the road, it will continue to look great for years to come. Unless you plan on gaining or losing a considerable amount of weight, I'd rather invest in a nicer tuxedo and have it for the long haul vs. buying something that will end up getting replaced eventually.

Thanks. I also thought buying a nice tux now would be worth it for the long haul. I've been pulled in so many directions by people saying buy one for $200-300.

Anyone have suggestions? I'm running out of time. The max I want to spend is $800.
