1)What kind of shoe protectors do you use when it rains outside?
2)What kind of shoe protectors can you recommend? What brands?
3)What are the rules (in terms of size, color, style) one should stick to choosing his rubbers?

Now I use some shoe covers made of polyethylene. The problem is they are not supposed to be worn on streets. People use that kind of covers when they visit hospitals mostly. They don’t look great. They are disposable since they are very easy to tear. There is an upside though. They are light and small. Anyway, I want to replace them with something more stout and durable (something made of say rubber).

Back in the day I tried to pull some very big rubbers on in some store. Even though they were huge (actually that was the biggest size the store had) I didn’t manage to pull them on my shoes. The problem was they were not flexible and distensible enough. So, my first experience with rubbers was disappointing in a way.

It seems very few people here take care of their shoes in the rain.

I have a pair of SWIMS, which I'm sure I'll be using more often in the coming rainy season. They do the job well. If you get a pair, I recommend buying the loudest, most contrasting color possible (bright red, yellow, orange). They look awkward when you try to blend them into your outfit with neutral colors.

That's not a bad tip I just don't know to what extent you're supposed to wear them when it is wet out.

Do you wear it while it's pouring - or just put them on when the ground is still wet/ light rain out?

Not sure if you're even supposed to remove them once indoors - anyone know?

If it's raining pretty heavily, I usually wear a beater shoe. I'll wear my nice shoes with SWIMS if it's not raining heavily and/or the ground is pretty wet. I take them off as soon as I get to my office.

I'm not sure about the loud contrasting color as I don't want people around me know I wear SWIMS. You know, SWIMS look much too unusual in my neck of the woods.

I wonder how tensile your SWIMS are. What is the size compared to the size of your shoes?

I have a pair of swims. They are great. That is, as long as you're not in a crazy storm where you step in deep puddles. It doesn't cover the entire shoe. Basically, I agree with New Shoes1.

I have XL for 10.5 shoes. They'd probably fit up to 11.5 well. They're not extremely tight on my shoes but fit well. I only use them when I wear my formal shoes (patent leather with leather sole) since I don't want to change shoes and I have to wear them for work.. It almost never rains here though. If I were in a rainier climate, I would just wear beater shoes.

I have the darkish blue version. They look okay, but I agree orange would probably be better.

I have the orange ones. One thing is certain: they draw a lot of attention ! They work great though. Mostly use them during winter, when there is snow on the ground.

It seems orange may be great and yet it is too dandy in my opinion. Thanks for the details about the size. It is the very important issue because I want to buy my first Swims online.

Heh, yeah I hear ya. No problem with a more muted color.

Yeah sizing is an oddity, since it's done by the SMLXLXXL system. I should mention that make sure you don't size up. I could probably get away with a L. I know for my bespoke shoes they're a bit too small. But they have a very slim last due to my low instep. I also bought mine online. They come with a nifty carrying bag which makes it much easier to store when you're not at home.

They definitely are the best galoshes I've ever had. The velvety lining makes it much easier to take on and off. They're incredibly better than Tingley galoshes which are unlined and a pain in the butt to take on and off.

According to the SWIMS website, they only make down to a medium. Is this true?

Well, if Swims says so... I think it's true. Brooks Brothers doesn't carry anything lower than a medium either.

I bought mine online from BB. Their size recommendation worked just fine for me.

I have tingley's but I will probably be buying a pair of orange swims once BB has a 25% corporate shopping discount.
