First real suit buy - on ebay! Was it a good deal?

I guess I should change the title to say: is it any good in the greater sartorial world? Back when I was young and dumb, I bought a few Men's Warehouse Versini suits with pleats, cuffs and a pretty American cut. Thanks to this forum, I've been scouring ebay. It's so addictive! I'm not even really in the market anymore, but I just have to keep looking. Anyway, I ended up with this suit: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...ht_2808wt_1608 The colors in the auction are deceptive. It's actually the much lighter grey shown in the last picture. Not quite what I expected, but I think it'll be versatile. It fits well around the shoulders and midsections. I think it just needs to be hemmed, have about an inch of waist let out (has fabric for it) and maybe sleeves shortened. I'll post pics when I get it done. How'd I do?

For a staple HF suit in used but good condition, $58.47 is a fair price.

Expect another $150 in alterations. I bought a HF navy blazer for $15 on ebay once and I'm very happy with it now. It gets some wear.

Seriously? Assuming you're not just an inveterate snob, buying a quality item like this one, well before its expiration date, allows one to afford quality well above what one could buy new. After all, a common refrain from those who defend buying expensive clothing is "You'll wear it for years." It certainly follows that if the first owner hasn't worn the item out, getting a suit like this for $60 is absolutely good.

Agreed. I just bought an HF 100% cashmere glen plaid sport coat for like $40 on eBay. It's in perfect condition and all it needed was a sleeve lengthening.

some people are just creeped out by the idea of wearing other people's clothes. i buy a lot of jackets on ebay. i'm cheaper than i am phobic and if i can get a $900 jacket for $80 that's where i'm going.

Germaphobes have a legitimate fear they cannot control so I understand that.

Most people who can wear expensive clothes typically treat them with much more care (unless you're a movie star that gets them for free). It's like the guy who owns the Ferrari doesn't take it out riding every day.
