First post, please critique my suit

Hi SF, first post here, though have been lurking awhile. I recently had a suit tailored in Asia (decent tailor), as I'm finishing college soon and need something good for job interviews and the workplace. I purchased two suits, and some shirts. The suit pictured is charcoal and the other is navy blue. I would like some feedback, particularly on the fit. I am quite short - 5'5" and 146 lbs so finding clothes my size is very difficult here. One thing I don't like is the size of the sleeves, which seem to crumple especially when I bend my arm, possibly because they are too wide, (or long?). I realise the shirt is not ironed, however it pretty much had the same effect on an ironed shirt as well. When I mentioned this to the tailor (who is genuinely a good guy) he insisted that this was okay. Also, he said the shirt might shrink in the wash. I am wondering if I am being paranoid or not? I personally have only a very basic understanding or suits and fashion, so all criticisms (however harsh) and honesty is greatly appreciated.

It looks a little boxy, but at 5'5" and 150 lbs, you're probably a little boxy. It's not a sexy fit, but looks to be a passable fit. You'll need to post more pictures of you wearing the jacket if you want better feedback.

The shirt seems pretty wrinkly and needs to be ironed. It does not fit you beautifully and looks to be slightly too long in the sleeves and too broad in the chest.

Also, the shirt is generally considered to be separate from the "suit". The "suit" consists of the trousers and jacket (and vest, if there is one).

What type of suit are you wearing? It has a bad drape.

au contraire! i'm 2 inches taller and 5 pounds lighter, but if you saw me you'd think i was skinny and weighed 130lbs.

Welcome. This is just my opinion, so ignore it at will. Also, the lens is probably exaggerating the problems I am seeing. For future pictures, (1) more light is your friend; (2) more distance between camara and subject reduces distortion. One must shoot from several (at least four) yards away to properly evaluate coat length. The coat makes you look ten pounds heavier. Could the waist be brought in any? On the next coat, I would ask for a lower button stance and maybe a little more length in the body of the coat (perhaps an inch). It's hard to say for sure about the length without seeing full body shots (including the feet) from the side and back. There is some slack in the shirt sleeves but it does not seem eggregious. You need a little to keep the cuffs from pulling way up your arm when you move. Wash the shirt a few times and reevaluate. Sleeve lengths look good -- slightly uneven in the photo, but this may not reflect reality ... if it does, you could have either adjusted slightly to match the other.

thanks for the replies.

The suit is a slim fit cashmere wool suit.

I know what you mean about boxy, but I think that's more of my body type.

I did have other pictures of the suit, but they came out badly - it was actually harder to take the photos than I thought it would be.

actually, on further consideration, I think there is some effect from the angle at which I took the photo - on a table a couple of inches below my waist - thus the camera was pointing 'up' at me. I will try to do a proper shot later when I have more time.

Thanks again

Jacket looks too short? Lower button stance? More defined waist? More open quarters?

Suit doesn't look promising but you'll get better opinions once you've got better pics up.

I cant really rate it - till you get better pictures & if you could please take pics of the side and back.

Already tough - The shirt seems to blouse a bit - maybe have it taken in just a tad - The buttons are way to high on the coat.

As far as it being your first suit - you should of went w/ a navy blue as your staple - its more universal. With your built the length of the coat is good - but i would open up the neck a bit - maybe get your self a nice horizontal strip shirt to give you more of a taller look and thin you out a bit.

But I'll have a better idea with some more decent pictures.

I don't necessarily qualify as "someone with more knowledge," but I'd open them up more. It creates more of an hourglass look that slims the "boxy" gent, speaking as a bit of a boxy fellow myself.
