So, measuring the hat on a flat area on the brim revealed 23 separate fibers per linear inch. I don't know if your measurement of 500 weaves per inch related to a square inch of area, but at more than 20 times the count of mine, I'm guessing that might be the case. Or of course it's just a bad recollection. Either way I appreciate your telling me. I'm trying to get a feel for what quality of hat I have, hopefully by eliciting feedback from others who might have purchased one.

I am tempted to email the seller and ask what expectations should there be regarding the weaves of different grades.

23^2 = 529, so that sounds about the same (not that I know anything about panama hats, I'm just going purely on the math)

Sorry Chips, I just saw this. Yes, it is per square inch and your hat and mine have roughly the same wpi.
