Hi, I’m new here and I’m new to the raw denim scene. My very first pair arrived today (Gustin Okayama Standard #75) and I was looking for some tips on how to care for them. I ordered a size 30 and they fit perfectly in the waist but they’re way too long. Should I get them hemmed in the coming days or should I wait some time? I heard that you’re not supposed to wash them for 6 months to a year of wearing every day but I work 4 days a week and I can’t wear them at work. Will this be a problem?

Here’s some pics:

the easiest way to go about it is to give them an initial warm water soak for like thirty mins in the tub then hang dry. wear them for a few days then get them hemmed to whatever length you want if they are still too long.

the initial soak will soften the contrast and sharpness of the fading patterns you would have gotten if you’d raw dogged it for a year. but a soak prevents blowouts and the softer fabric will be much more pleasant to wear during first few months or longer before you wash them. an initial soak also prevents any issues with fades shifting after wearing them raw for a while. when they are dirty hand wash in woolite dark and hang dry. repeat.

the biggest thing is to just wear them and not think about them. they are just a pair of jeans. since you aren’t going to wear them a lot just be patient and they will eventually become something cool.

Personally, I think the cuffs look great and you don't need to hem them.

As for general care, don't feel like you have to wait a certain time before washing. If they start to smell or you spill something on them in that 6 month time frame, you should absolutely wash them. Otherwise just break them in and beat them up man, raws are built to hold up for a while.
