First pair of AE's... Hancock vs. Burton

I purchased my first pair of Allen Edmonds off of Ebay today. I got the Hancock in brown burnished calfskin. I was wondering how these compare to the Burton as far as fit and style. I tried the Burton on yesterday and was happy with both. Also, would these shoes be considered "acceptable" to wear with jeans as well as with a khaki suit? Thanks in advance for your advice.

I'd say the Hancock actually has a wider-toe. Similar in fit although I'd prefer the Burton because of the less obvious raised ring. I believe the Hancock sole is leather whereas the Burton has rubber grip strips. The Hancock also has the cork insole...if I remember correctly...so it may take some breaking in before they are comfortable

The Hancock and the Burton are similar in styling. The Hancock has a raised seam, which probably makes it a tad more casual, not enough to be of any practical consequence. They are on different lasts, the Hancock on the #4, which fits me well, and the Burton on the #2, which does not. I have the Hancock in brown and brogue suede. I shall never buy the Burton because of fit issues.

Both seem a little dressy for wear with jeans. However, if you like to pair jeans with a sport coat, they would probably not look too out of place, but then I am not the greatest fan of jeans, period.

I just tried on a pair of Burton's tonight. Maybe it's because I'm an extra wide width but I didn't care for the squared off profile of the toe. A little too Steve Madden for my tastes. Since the Hancock is essentially the same shoe, just a little more rounded at the toe, I'd stick with that.

I am starting a petition to Allen Edmonds to name a shoe the "Libourel".
