Hi, I'm new here so go easy! Anyway I'm not sure if I've titled it correctly, but I'm getting fitted for my first suit that's not off the peg this weekend & would like to tap into some of your considerable knowledge to ensure I'm suitably armed before I go in.

I'm going to Gieves & Hawkes for their 'Personal Tailoring' service http://www.gievesandhawkes.com/en/tailoring/personal/
& I'm looking for a suit for my upcoming wedding in September this year. I'm not one for tails but would ideally like a plain, dark grey, three piece suit. In terms of detail I'm thinking two button, peak lapels, horizontal pockets (with flaps) & belt loops. I wear a 38"R jacket & 32" trousers & I'm basically hoping to avoid any major faux pas/to pick up some hints before I go.

I'm afraid I'm not quite David Beckham, but this is a rough idea of the style I'm after.

Hopefully some of you made it through all that & thanks in advance!

I would suggest braces or side-tabs for a three piece. The extra bulk of a belt under the waistcoat can look ugly, especially if it causes a noticable bump for the buckle. I have a three-piece with belt loops only, and I'm always a bit disgruntled when I wear it with the vest and a belt.

I suppose you could get belt loops and interior braces buttons put on. That way, when you wear it as a two-piece, you can wear a belt, but when you wear it as a three-piece, you can wear braces, and the vest will hide the loops anyway.

Cheers Luddite, I hadn't considered that. I'll definitely look into that & kind of like the sound of the interior braces, actually.
