I'm going to HK next month and plan to get an MTM suit from Chan. I have read the article in the Wiki (Manton's?) and there's lots of good information there.

I'm curious to see if any of you have any tips for a first MTM.

One thing I'm wondering is what general style to go for. I have five suits:

Corneliani solid charcoal
Castagnia navy, tan pinstripe
Arnold Brant blue-grey with light blue pinstripe. Getting a bit long in the tooth, having been repaired once.
Jones New York light grey chalk stripe. This one is probsably closest to retirement, with fabric pilling.
Luciano Barbera navy flannel, which the pants are too small to wear. I am trying to diet my way into these by winter.

Tradition says says I should probably get a solid navy to plug that gap, in case the diet fails. But that seems a bit boring. OTOH, maybe I should replace the old JNY. Or maybe something different again.

I'm pretty heavy for my height so I don't think plaids or windowpanes would "suit".

Any ideas, tips, etc?

I would go for a light to mid-grey suit (solid or a subtle texture/pattern, e.g. a small birdseye or nailhead). I find these more elegant and versatile than the ubiquitous solid navy
