Greetings,

Based primarily on the highly valued forum consensus, I have made an appointment with Chris Despos to have him make me a suit. This will almost certainly be my only Despos-made suit this year, and I am torn about what to have made up. Would love to get some SF opinions/recommendations... here are some facts which may help:

- I wear suits 2-4 times per month, on average
- I want my despos suit to be for business/somewhat conservative
- charcoal gray or anything darker doesn't really suit my coloring
- I don't want anything flannel yet, as the season for it would be over by the time the suit is ready

Here's what I currently have in the way of good work suits:
- Attolini mid-gray
- Oxxford light gray
- Thom Browne mid-gray glen-plaid
- MTM navy suit by another Chicago tailor (Tier 2 suit all around)
- Borrelli navy herringbone
- Isaia navy blue summer-weight suit (just ordered from Gilt - may not keep)

For my despos suit, should I go for something more challenging, such as a double-breasted or 3-piece, or get the "ultimate" navy business suit? What would you get if you were me? Any particular cloth recommendations for something that is durable, travels well but still looks nice? First time "high-end bespoke" basic advice?

Feedback greatly appreciated!

if you only wear suits 2-4 times/month, you should go for something very conventional. if you do something weird, you'll probably almost never wear it. weird being DB, 3-piece, loud color or pattern, etc.

a nice normal navy suit would work. what will make it really nice is a good cloth/cut/fit.

as for cloths, i again recommend normalness. 10oz dormy/loro piana. i don't think theres much value in upgrading to the super crazies, but then again i'm young and spend a lot on booze & chicks.

Even say, navy hopsack?

It sounds like your existing suits cover the basics, so I would go for something different like a double-breasted or three piece. For something more complex like that, it makes even more sense to go bespoke, and for the top quality you'll be getting from Despos, I'm sure you'll wear it quite a bit.

if i were in your situation, i would return the Isaia, and have Chris do a navy or navy pinstripe, basic business suit

He is going to Despos, no need for our advice, he will make sure you dont make a mistake.

He is a genius in this regard.

Please show us the results?

If you're undecided, just ask Despos.

Just be sure to specify, "A&S-ish."

Oh: ask for his house brand kimchi.

blue/grey sharkskin, Smith Woollens # 4505 Great suit for almost any occasion.

Mid grey nail head for some texture/surface interest.

Navy micro pindot pattern for a versatile navy suit that is not quite a solid but still dressy when you need it.

I vote mid-grey nail head just cause that sounds really good.

I wear suits very infrequently these days, and this is in my closet too. Good choice imho. And the matter that had me traveling to Chicago frequently ended suddenly, along with my immediate availability to become a Despos client as well.

I prefer a sharkskin to a nail head, but Chris will make either choice sing!
