Just received my first WW Chan suit in the mail and it's 95% perfect in terms of cut and matching every requirement

however, I can't feel much if any canvassing in the chest

if there is any, it's the thinnest I've ever felt

I'll be seeing Patrick in a month so I will be sure to follow-up

anyone else notice that they use very thin canvassing???

I'm sure it will be fixed if there was a mistake and I'm not worried, just find it odd

Before you make any accusations that might piss them off, are you sure you are right about this?

Indeed! How exactly are you checking for a canvas?

absolutely!

it's possible they just used a new tailor to make it and a mistake was made and I'm sure it will be fixed, but it seems strange that the first one comes in like this because otherwise it's essentially perfect with only one fitting

All mine definitely canvased. My vests have not been other than the lapels (don't know if that's industry standard but what slightly dissappointing from my perspective).

Even fused suits have canvas in the chest- they just don't have it anywhere else. What kind of test are you doing which leads you to believe there is no canvas?

I have sportscoats that are half canvassed and the rest of what I own are fully canvassed so I'm very well aware of what it feels like

Maybe it's a heavy fabric and light canvas? IIRC Chan's default is a fairly substantial canvas so you should be able to feel it.

Does it have that slippery feeling between the two layers that many fused suits do?

A lot of suits made in Hong Kong uses a fair bit of fusing, even if you asked for full canvassing. You can find such fusings around the pocket flaps and the rear skirt. This is to maintain the shape of the material over time (pocket flaps) and act as a weight to maintain drape on the back (rear skirt).

While there might a full canvas inside the suit, you can also find a fusing on the upperside of the lapel (not the stiched down side).

To check, go to these areas and pinch up the fabric and roll them between your fingers. If the area has been fused, the fabric will feel thicker and more sturdy. This is because a thin lining of felt-like material is glued to the underside of the fabric to give it rigidity.
