First Bow Tie - Best Choice?

I really want to rock a bow tie one of these days, but I've never worn or owned one before. That's why I'm taking it easy on the price and purchasing one from thetiebar.com just to see how it goes. What would be the best choice for a casual bow tie? Which one would complement most outfits? In other words, what would be the equivalent of a navy grenadine necktie in the bow tie world? Something I can wear casually, look good and not be the laughing stock of everyone.

Bow ties

Thank you!

No, not with a suit... I was thinking a light blue button-down shirt to start. Maybe a v-neck sweater in solid color. Slim silhouette overall. I liked these 3. Will either one work?

^^ The last two are pretty good, but the most versatile bow is the Churchill pindot - goes with just about everything.

I thought about that, seemed like the safest option. But also, isn't it a little too formal for casual SoCal settings?

I have added this one to my cart like 9x. Still don't own it. I keep reminding myself that I've dropped 10x that amount with 1/100th less thought, but I can't get past thinking it looks too much like a candy cane.

I will be monitoring this thread.

Be prepared for some Tucker Carlson comments.
My first time with a bow tie in public was a couple of weeks ago, with the tie below. A couple of friends threatened to disown me, but several ladies gave compliments. I'm not sure what I'd pick for a spring bow tie, so I'll be watching this thread too.

My confidence borders on self-obsession. I honestly don't care what anybody else thinks as long as I like it myself. Now, learning to like it is what's difficult here... (and by it I meant wearing bow ties)

Of the original three you've chosen, I'd go for the last one.

I too have wanted to wear a bow tie. But always seem to talk myself out of it.

I have this idea of wearing a bow tie to the beach this spring/summer. Sort of like a spring summer look. But then I realize I make fun of those tourists who simply chose to wear a sport coat and tie at the beach. I am less critical of this now, since my SF indoctrination.

I wear bow ties pretty often. I'm still trying to get a hang of what's flashy but not too flashy, what's neutral enough, and what is as far as possible from "party tie" which is the unfortunate association many people seem to have with them. I also really like the third tie posted above (the Argyle Sutherland). People say the Churchill dot bow tie is good, but I think it's too dressy for most occasions. Maybe not. I don't have one, but I'd like to. I just don't think it's a great first bow tie. These mini BB#1 repp ties from Brooks Brothers are nice.

I think getting a standard repp stripe tie is a good choice. It's good for bow ties to be colorful, but a basic stripe is traditional enough to calm the look down. A single bar stripe bow tie is nice too (like the one in my user picture). This is a pretty dull but nice bow tie from Cordial Churchman.

And this is a more colorful one that I think is versatile.

They also have a grey chambray bow tie that is pretty low-key as far as bow ties go.
