First bespoke suit

Hi styleforum,

I plan to invest in my first bespoke suit. My only other suit is one that I bought right after college from the mall; needless to say, it fits me quite poorly. I really like 3 piece suits in either gray or black, but I hear black is too formal and thus not the most versatile. What color/style should I get for my first awesome suit?

For reference, I'm of Asian decent, so some colors/styles may not look as good on me when compared to folks of other ethnicities.
