First Bespoke Suit

I finally commissioned my first bespoke suit today. I ordered a 10 oz. H&S fabric in a really dark navy with a wide beaded stripe. I'm having it made into a SB 3 button role to 2 peak lapel suit with flat front pants. I asked for a soft natural shoulder (my tailor, who was trained in Naples, should probably be able to handle this) and soft construction.

I must say that it was a pretty cool experience - sitting there sorting through the fabrics, chatting with my tailor, etc.

I wore an Isaia suit that fits me pretty well and he took a few measurements off of that suit and a few measurements directly off of my body. I basically told him that I wanted him to copy that suit as much as possible with a few adjustments. He'll be doing a basted fitting at some point, as well as however many subsequent fittings are necessary to get it right.

This forum has got me crazy - I never thought I'd be getting a bespoke suit and paying the price that I'm going to be paying for this suit. I expect delivery in January. I'll post updates in this thread throughout the process and then pictures of the final product.

I went in today for my first fitting (assuming the original measurement process doesn't count as a fitting). The pants were basically made and fit very well. The only thing that needs to be finished is that they have to be hemmed. I love the button-fly on the trousers - much better than a zipper.

I got to feel and see the fabric, which was awesome, and I think I made the right choice.

The jacket was basically just the jacket body with the canvassing exposed. The made sure the shoulders fit well, checked the collar and made adjustments, marked where the bottons are going to go and the width of the lapels, showed me how the roll is going to be, adjusted the length of the coat, the height of the armholes, the waist. Just about everything.

He told me that the next step is going to be another fitting similar to the one we did today but after he makes the adjustments. He'll then put it all together and add the sleeves and do a final fitting where he will make any necessary adjustments.

So far, this is an excellent experience.

I'm using a local guy here in NJ - his name is Angelo. I found him because he's where my father went. He was trained in custom tailoring in Naples, and he's done a lot of really great alterations work for me (although, he is not generally an alterations tailor) and so I decided to give the custom route a shot with him.

I've got my second fitting for my first true bespoke suit next week or so. Good luck with yours.

I love them too, but not when going to the bathroom.

Please share pics when everything is completed (or even before completion...we don`t mind!)

+1. Almost all of my trousers have them now, and I have stopped urinating.
