Finer granularity on user status -- is it necessary?

I have prided myself on being a StyleForum SENIOR MEMBER ever since I finished the initiation rituals involved. These days I don't get much out of it though; it seems like there are just too many of us. So I propose that the powers-that-be implement a rank system with more categories. Example ----------- - Newbie (Cannot start new threads because they will likely be
spam[1].gif
) - Basic Member (Can start new threads, but they all get automatically moved to DT) - Member (Can post wherever, but posting questions that have been answered elsewhere leads to a BAN.) - Senior Member (Can post whenever and wherever, no matter how drunk.) - Senior Member Elite (??) - Grand Master (??... to reach this status member must prove he has never worn a fabric based lapel flower.) What is your opinion?

I suffered from a granularity deficiency this morning.
My stomach still hurts.

I support this idea. It seems there's a boatload of truant teens here running rampant.

I thought this thread was going to be a lot more successful than it is....

I would agree with
-Newbie (less than 100 posts) cannot start a new thread.
The spammers and too many threads is pretty annoying. But the most seniors members starting dumb threads here is no better, imho.

In which category will the OP place himself ? Since AEs make him physically sick ...

I suggest a BigTimer sub-forum where the Rubinacci and EG crowd can get physically sick at the small timers who have to turn right in airplanes and mock AEs to their hearts' content. Minimum net worth 25 million USD

I don't really care much about ranks, currently spammer/trolls are within boundaries so my opinion might change in the future.

More importantly this forum needs a "best answer" system implemented. How many times do you see a 200+ page thread where the answer is found in the first 10 pages, but everyone keeps repeating the same question over and over again.

The idea is anyone in the thread can vote/choose which post was most relevant to them and it's ranked on the first page.

Of course this allows Connie's custom title to be changed to Forum Queen.

Consider, for example, my post count. Way back when, in 2005 iirc, there was a forum crash and all members had their post count reset. Mine went from several thousand to zero, and is now only around 500. Your ranking system is without regard for duration of membership... not to mention, I think it not in keeping with the spirit of the forum.
