Is there a reason the standard Alden 975 won't work?

It's classic and works well when formal business attire is needed, but YMMV. I'm in a pair of black Alden shell longwings today.

Try calling the Alden Shop in SF. They got me a pair of Alden 975 in less than a week, after I struck out with numerous online retailers.

Quick update.

I spoke to someone at Brooks Bros on Rodeo drive who said they could find me a pair... but never got back to me. Fast forward to this afternoon, and I called Madison Ave and they said their last pair was just shipped to Rodeo! Turns out they actually found them in NYC and shipped them to Rodeo to ship them to NYC! Needless to say they won't make my birthday, but at least I found them.

That's what I get for being impatient!!! LOL

Mafoofan,

The Alden's would have been fine, but I locked onto the Black Fleece after thinking I could get cordovan for $400. Sometimes, i'm a bit like a dog with a bone, I just lock onto something till I get it... LOL

The ShoeMart has a large supply and ships very fast. Order one day, have them the next. I've ordered from them many times over the years and have never had a problem or shipping delay.

The ShoeMart used to routinely have 20% off sales on Alden shells, but not anymore. My first pair of shells were bought from them several years ago, a pair of LHS; this started my fascination with shell. The shoes have aged very nicely.

20% discount would make them a better deal, most of them are almost $600 which is a bit steep.

Plaza last. I've ordered four more, for a total of five.
