Finding a good barber/stylist in nyc

Well, I've had the same haircut for the past, I dunno, 4 or 5 years, and during that time, I've gone to the same barber at the same barbershop, every two weeks, in and out.

Now, though, my hair's thinning a bit, and I feel like I might need something new - or, at least, I'd like someone's educated opinion on the subject. I live out in the middle of nowhere (Ithaca), in NY state, but I'll be heading through NYC next week.

Can anyone recommend a good-to-really-good place for me to get a haircut, in NYC?

The best haircut I've gotten here is at Cutler Salon. It's a little pricy at $85, but definalty worth it. I'd especially recommend it to you, if you want a new style. They mostly deal with male models all day, so they're the best at designing new looks and determining what style would be best suited for a particular person.

They really pamper you there, with a robe, shampoo, head massage, and beverages during the haircut. A whole hour is alloted to each client. Before you even get shampooed, the stylist consults with you on what type of haircut would be best and what they plan on doing.

I would definatly go here at least once. They will definatly help you change up your style. The number is 212-308-3906; the women who cuts my hair is Sheridan, she does a great job, I totally recommend it.

I go to Chelsea Barbers, which is at 23rd and 10th Avenue. It's this little place run by Betty Garcia, this woman from Colombia. For only $20, you get a great haircut. I personally have very uncomplicated hair, and there isn't much you can do with it. I get my haircut every 3 weeks, and so an expensive haircut isn't an option for me. Below are a couple of reviews. One of the reviews mentions this place, Ishi, but I've never known anyone who's been there. Re: Cutler (I guess Arrojo left). I haven't heard anyone say anything bad about it. Supposedly it's the best mens haircut in the city according to NY magazine (or I guess it lost that title this year to Ishi.) I went to Chelsea Barbers for my last hair cut. I can see how they would be good for people with shorter, simpler hair styles; however mine is long and complicated, thus justifying the price at Cutler (I only get it cut at most 5 times a year). I went to Chelsea Barbers with one of my roomates and he got a great short haircut. IMO Cutler Salon is just way too pricey for a person who needs their hair cut every 2-4 weeks. I'd recommend you'd stick with CB, or maybe just splurge once if you want to change up your style.

you might also try the barber at the Plaza hotel....supposed to be excellent. had i not had a haircut right before my trip to NYC, that would have been my choice.
