Just received this in the mail:

http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html...sin=B000GVYMGQ

Fits like it was tailored for me -- the fit for some reason is way better than the other velvet Target also offers in numbered sizes. The "velvet" is uber cheap but the cheapness ends up feeling a bit like distressing, which is kind of cool. The jacket is super light construction so it's not too warm for bars or clubs. The peaked lapels detract from AmJackness. The pinstripes aren't too bad in person because they're more chalkstripes than pins. Heck, it even has working buttonholes. And you can't lose with this price. Not my style at all for the most part but could come in handy for those trips to Vegas, etc.

I actually have a Merona velvet blazer from Target that is really nice. It's very similar to the one I have from Zara in quality, and is a midnight blue three button that is numbered. It has held up quite well, also.

Nice. Target is great because you can buy stuff and then not really give a damn what happens to it. Its pretty fitted compared to a lot of things(if you're lucky), and things tend to have a *bit* more Euro-style...

However, the velvet blazer has been "back in" for a while...just saying.

He means the discussions, which can be a bit notorious here.

I wish I wasn't a small small, otherwise I would pick this up. Target's small is assuredly too big for me.

Oh, I remember the "Gay Velvet' thread. That's where Arethusa's quote in my sig comes from. In fact, I just made a snarky response to a similar joke/accusation in the compliments thread.

I was at Target today and saw they had these Merona velvet blazers, which had a little nicer velvet than the Mossimo ones (though still not great).

They were 3-button with notch lapels, and a ticket pocket. They were on sale for $30 or $40. I would have picked one up but they are center vent, and I'm not down with that look. Plus everyone knows velvet blazers are for gays

In all serious though, they weren't bad. Plus they had them in black, midnight blue/navy, mocha, and plum/royal purple.

Pinstripes on velvet don't work for me. Also, the blazer looks a little sloppy, unstructured. Target's other velvet blazer has much cleaner lines. It's simplicity is it's real strong point. However, it's not very fitted. At 40 bucks, who cares? I wish I had picked one up anyway.

btw, the last time I had a jacket tailored (sides drawn in), I believe the tailors did so by creating a nasty two inch seam just above the vent. Is this the only way to bring in the sides, or is there a less visible way?

Target has come a long long way in quality. Aren't all these clothes (Target, Gap, Old Navy, Banana Republic, American Eagle all rolling off the same sweatshop lines anyway?

They are two totally different looks. I agree with you in principle on the pinstripes, but for $30 or whatever I said what the hell. I know from past experience that Mossimo mediums fit me perfectly with zero tailoring (just one of those things) so it's hard to go wrong. The pinstripes actually turned out to be not horrible. And the jacket isclearly unstructured by design, which actually ends up working well with the cheap, semi-beat up nature of the velvet.

The Merona blazers are definitely more structured and their velvet is a bit nicer, but they not fitted at all. I tried the Meronas and they kind of sucked on me.... Would have required at least $100 in tailoring for a good fit, which would be a real waste.

If I wanted a structured velvet blazer, I would go with this one.

I tried on the numbered size Merona velvet blazer couple months ago and I was shocked at how nicely the size 38 fit me. It was almost as perfect as an OTR jacket could fit. The navy was nice, but I'm not a velvet jacket kinda guy. Not that there's anything wrong with wearing one

Blast, the chest is always too small in Target blazers for me.

A little off subject.

Are Velvet and Velour different?

Target and The Gap are pushing up the low-end; H&M, Uniquo, Zara, et al are pushing up the mid-range. So if things continue as they are now, what does the retail menswear space look like 5 years from now?!

I would consider Gap to be midrange and Old Navy to be low end.
