I think I will eventually pull the trigger on a high end sneaker. If I like how it holds up, more will follow. [IMG] The magic eraser trick works wonders on small spots BTW. I went through several (dozens) pages and haha...it never fails! Someone always ask RFX about his occupation. :x

I wear shoes pretty hard (chuck taylors last about 4-5 months before the sides come undone and are mostly unwearable), and my CPs have lasted 2 years of constant abuse by ice, snow, rain, dogs, and small lakes (due to the dog) and still look pretty nice overall, probably have 3 more years of reasonable life left. Not only do 'baller' sneakers feel better but they last longer and wear down much more nicely IME.

I know the whole quality vs. durability vs. price debate and I don't want to dredge it up again, but w/ how much I've worn my Achilles, I've noticed literally no sole wear. Compare that to any Nike/Adidas/Puma/Converse/anything that pretty quickly starts sloping to one side.

Obviously that sole quality isn't enough to make the price worth it, but I think the sole is substantially better.

Edit: as for whiteness, well, there's not that much you can do about that. Drew from TOJ swears by Magic Eraser for spot spains, IIRC, but you're gonna get some wear on your sneaks. It's better that way, imo. I'm not a fan of trashing your white sneakers, but blinding perfect white forever isn't really necessary.

I wore white patent cp through the winter.

Wiped them down with felt and slightly soapy warm water...

    BAM, box fresh.

Welp yeah, patent will do that for ya. [IMG] Personally my all white Achilles are gettin a bit too dirty for my tastes. What I'd really prefer is also having the summer version w/ the gum sole that I could trash a bit more. Unfortunately I didn't have funds through sale season sooooo...

The CP sole in size 39 is too narrow for me and 40 is too long.
    Wat do [IMG]

Need to track down some MMMs I guess.
Dunno if I'd want a 40 or 41 though [IMG]
    Fuck having small, wide feet.

Do you live in The Shire?

BTW you might find that the Italian Army CPs that JD_May linked above are perfect length for you -- they run shorter than Achilles.

No they don't, they fit exactly like Achilles. I have both.

Hmmm... well ain't that some shit, it turns out my Italian Armys are actually Size 40s based on the extremely faded 40 stamped on the heel.

Also "too long" is usually not exactly a big deal.

Just a question for the ballers out there with expensive sneakers. What do you guys do when the sole wears down and/or when the white midsole gets dirty in which you can't restore it to its former condition?

This is the primary reason why I'm hesitant to buy an expensive pair. With dress shoes and such, you can have the soles redone and the shoes refinished.

When you have multiple pairs they never wear out.

It sounds like that dude doesn't even want the sole to get discolored. Gotta learn to live with a little wear, no matter the shoe. Unless you're Master P.
