filson messenger vs. briefcase for everyday casual use

Looking for a everyday/school bag, and I am down again with two filsons - filson small carry on (messenger bag ) and filson canvas briefcase. Both of these bag's sizes fits my needs.

I really like the look of both of these bags - what do you think of these? tell me your opinions/experience (on looks)!

Check these out in person before you buy them if possible. Honestly i think both are too big and unwieldy for everyday school use.

I would like to, but I can't. I live in a small rural city. I know these can be big, but it's fine since I need to fit in my 14inch laptop.

I have the briefcase in otter. While I don't use it for school, I do use it to transport my laptop from place to place. For a small framed person like me, it's bigger than I'd like, but it is still very nice. For reference I'm 5'8" and the bag would be better for me if it were an inch shorter in width and height.

Oh, if you plan on getting a filson bag, check ebay for some good deals. I got mine for about 140.

I have the briefcase and love it. I don't think it's too big at all.
