    Looks like a 257 because of the strap handles and wider width.

    I think you are right. Well if I can find one at a good price it would be extremely tempting. Good looking bag. Not a fan of the res patch, but I bet it can be removed.

    did you ever hear back from them? emailed and DMed them on ordering the handles but never heard back. i assume crane's not interested in business from overseas.

    Can someone compare the Filson 256 (Briefcase) and the Filson 262 (Rucksack). Not sure what would be better for school.
    I have the 257 which I'm selling now to get. Not sure if using a heavy briefcase would be smart as my carry would be pretty heavy.

    If you're going to have a pretty heavy load on a regular basis, it's probably better to have it distributed over two shoulders rather than one. I have the 256 - great for the normal flotsam and jetsam, i.e. a book, keys, wallet, phone and/or BB, pocket knife, occasional 13" laptop/ umbrella/ light sweater/ camera with lens attached. I wouldn't want to carry multiple books with a laptop for long periods of time, however.

    Probably right.
    This was stuff from last semester: http://tinypic.com/r/msi3jl/6 + 13" MBP + 1-2 textbooks (maybe) + mischelly items.

    Although I usually carry the textbooks in my hands.
    There is a rucksack on eBay for $195. Anyone got one a cheaper one here?

    How is the quality of the red label compared to the regular Filson? Based on the pictures I've seen, the fabric seems a lot softer. Not sure if the same kind of heavy duty canvas is also used for red label products.

    I got the navy version and sold it a week later - it's softer but you'll see every bit of dust on it and it's very hard to clean. never happens with the otter green version. also, the leather feels a lot cheaper - almost like fake leather.

    256 vs 240. the 256 get's a ton of love on here, but I can't find much about the 240. The set up is a bit different, but the dimension are similar. I'm carrying an 11" MB Air along with other smaller stuff so size-wise both would work. Just wondering what others think of the 240 as I can't go compare them in-person.

    No, I have not heard from them yet... Maybe the'll lose a customer because of this - I might look for another option.

    Has anyone had snap buttons installed on the external pockets of the briefcases or tote bags to keep the pockets closed?

    I put snaps on the outside of my tote. It keeps it closed and makes sure things do not stick out.
