Hi fellow Filson aficionados. I'm looking for two bags for which I hope filson can fill a need.

First is a non-business carry-on for air travel. I normally carry my 256 and occasionally the 257 but would like to add something a little less business case but would like the ability to carry a laptop. For this, I'm thinking of the Sportsman bag. In addition to a laptop, I'd like to carry a mid-sized DSLR (just one attached lens, 16-85mm), reading material and essentials like phone, small notepad, pens, etc. Anybody have pictures of the sportsman bag with some other filson? Preferably along side one of the briefcases as they are so common and easily comparable for size reference.

Secondly, I'm looking for a smaller bag to carry every-day items and the same DSLR and lens but no laptop. For this I was thinking small Field Bag. Same request...anybody have pictures of this one adjacent to one of the briefcases for reference?

I found plenty of images via google search. If anyone's looking for something similar, here's what I found so far:

^are you still located in Boston? Just head over to Hiltons Tent City (near the TD Garden) and compare in person. They usually have all the bags in stock when I order online.

Plus they have the best prices (because they'll match any online/store prices).

That is great advice! I completely forgot about that place. I've purchased some filson clothing there over the years and you are absolutely right...they have a ton of filson in stock. I think they are a flagship dealer or whatever it's called. Appreciate the help LawrenceMD. I didn't know they'd price match.

FYI...after no communication since placing my order on 2/7, I emailed Working Person and received word that my 257 is backordered from Filson until at least May 24th. Haven't decided what to do about that. Contemplating seeing if Hilton's Tent City will match the price. Is anyone else having trouble finding it in stock?

Are they able to match the price yet?

I am so lusting after one of those Sportsman Bags.

Patrick, did you pick up the bag you wanted as yet? I'm thinking of getting a bag that would hold my 15" laptop, lunch, a change of clothes, and maybe a change of shoes. I'd also like to use it as a carry on when traveling. Is this all possible with the Sportsman?

Well, after emailing Working Person to cancel my order, I received word this morning that my 257 shipped today. Not sure what changed since telling me it was backordered until May, but I'll take it. I'll update here once it arrives. They still have the best price out there...$207 shipped.

Not sure if it's been mentioned here or elsewhere, but Glen's Outdoors is having a 25% off Filson sale. code at checkout is "lastchance"

If you click on the Filson links you won't find much there, but use the search box to try to find what you're looking for and many more items pop up. Just by searching I was able to find all sizes of duffles, the 256 and 257 briefcases and the sportman's bag.

This is a dumb question, but would the 256 be able to hold a 15" laptop and my lunch? Like tupperware containers for sandwiches or pasta or whatever? Because I've been debating between the 256 and the 257, but that's all I'd really need it for, and sometimes not even lunch. I think the 256 is the way to go for me.

No more than a laptop and some food?

Yeah, usually, at least. It will be for work. I carry my laptop to and from work, maybe some papers sometimes. And lunch, when I decide to make my own and bring it from home.

Length wise a 15" laptop would be a squeeze, but it's canvas so it gives and will probably fit just fine. Depending on the tupperware or container it'll either fit or it won't. As I said, it's not a rigid box so it'll expand but you're not going to have a TON of room on either side or on top. You'll probably have 2-3" of room to play with on top of the laptop but under the zipper.
