I need help deciding about buying pullman bags...

Does the weight bother you when you pack it full with clothes + shoes? How comfortable is using the shoulder strap to carry it? I'm planning to use this as travel companion along with my briefcase/tote bag, so the shoulder carry might be the method of carrying..

I carry my pullman with my briefcase. My preference is to carry both bags, by their handles, in each hand when walking. I find it hard to walk with a huge bag on my shoulder...but that doesn't have much to do with the pullman...it pretty much applies to all large shoulder bags. The bag is heavy when packed to the brim, and the shoulder strap is nice, but not as comfortable as the more practical travel bags (tumi, briggs, tom binh, etc.). I love my Pullman, but not because it is light and amazingly practical for travel...I like the way the thing looks, and that is why I use it.

Saw this 258 (model?) out in the wild on my commute today. Can anyone confirm model #?

Thanks. I definitely don't need a bag as big as the 258 then.

here's a super quick modification that I made to my zippered tote bag:

    1. find and extra thin belt from the wife/girlfriend and thread it through like so:

    2. then put the outside handle under the belt - which holds it down so it won't flop around. The belt will become a shoulder strap and the inside handle will become the other shoulder strap.

    3. Now the tote can become a convertible back pack.

Now your hands are free again.

I've had it like this for a year and there's been no problem with durability and its actually comfortable. the belt tucks into the outside pouch pocket when not in use. I've done this when riding a bike/commuting (no more fugly sport backpack/bike tote), and especially for travel with other luggage.

The above pic was from a Europe trip starting in Prague. The tote bag was my extra carry on. If you've seen one you know its cavernous and can hold tons of stuff.

After much consideration I am selling my BNWT tan Filson 256 and keeping the 257. Brand new, never used, all tags, first quality, ships in the original packaging and box from Filson. Local pickup in Vancouver is $190 or $200 shipped Canada/CONUS. (Link)

I posted a review here so I don't feel too guilty about the B&S plug. :)

My 257 chockers. Two casebooks, FRCP, another supplement, and my laptop inside. Emanuel CivPro in the outside pocket.

I had additional holes punched further up the shoulder strap so I can wear it messenger style while on my bike without it flopping around. Works a treat.

Hickey Freeman is having their FF sale at this moment (ending tonight actually).
The 25% off code HICKEYFF can also be applied to the filson bags they carry online
    http://www.hickeyfreeman.com/mens-bags/
The selection is limited though, only 220s in tan and 252 Leather Field Satchels.

Great thread, looking for a good weekend bag (Fri-Sun) and one for longer trips. I see that the nylon bags get no love. Any recommendations with pics?

Great seller here. Would kop if I didnt already have one. Btw, I have both the 256 and 257 and I think you made the right call. 257 holds about 33% more stuff without looking that much larger
