I agree on the tighter feel of the inside pockets. Obviously due to the heavier 22 OZ Twill over the lighter materials in the Bedrocks. With my #257 I find the shoulder strap to be on the larger side for cross-body carrying, I have mine right in the middle (I'm 6 Feet tall). I wonder if the Talon Era 256's are shorter in size to the #257's Shoulder straps? @GzStudio please chime in on this one??

As far as the keychain lanyard I have no comment, because my talon era 257 doesn't come with one HAHA

Awesome I'm happy for that guy, at least he was upfront with it being a BOYT and not a Filson like that other seller (who was also asking an arm & a leg for it). His price was much more befitting; $88 is an absolute steal for arguably the most high quality Faux Filson

I have noticed that the longer straps tend to come with the smaller bags. The larger duffles have shorter straps. I have noticed that I do not get or have the same size strap for the identical bags. I think I have like at least 5 talon 256's at home, 2 257's, and 1 talon 258. I might take a look late and compare...

My feeling is there are 2 strap lengths, but I couldn’t say which applies where. I seem to recall the Filson site selling replacements and offering 2 sizes also.
Certainly my first Filson (258) has a really long strap and I ended up putting a couple more holes in it.
Is it possible that longer on briefcases was intended to enable cross body, Wuxi is less likely for a duffle?

I just checked the Filson site, looks like they sell them in three lengths. I bought one a few years ago because I didn't like the nylon strap for my 24 hour brief. The woman from Filson recommended the longer one so I bought that one and it was very long - left a lot of extra strap flapping around. I even cut it down a bit but never did like the "improvement" I made.

Ah. Ok. That makes sense I guess. i agree on the long tail. My 258 strap feels flappy.

What I really am interested to try but not willing to do is slice the strap pad in half to leave just one layer of leather like the original versions. I think that’d make it a lot less pendulous

Don't get it regarding 'pendulous' and 'flapping around'. You do wear it like this I hope?

Hi, and welcome. Yup. But there are times - like at the airport - when I’ve got a tote or duffle in one hand, the 256 on the shoulder strap and passport and boarding pass in the other. It’s not always convenient to loop the strap when pausing or queuing or whatever, and that’s when things tend to go south, literally.

    First world problems... ;-)

Hey you crazy talonites (@OtterMeanGreen especially). This cropped up in my Pinterest feed and I couldn’t help but think of you :)

I prefer the wider strap from the 'talon era' xl duffle. I also have the strap that came with this bag from FRD which was a re-purposed duffle strap from the body of a duffle bag. I picked that over the non-padded strap (they gave me a choice :) ) It ended up being a little long on the shortest hole. I found the xl duffle strap to be just the right length for me. The width feels so much better than the thin un-padded strap. IMG_7801.jpg

It ain't no bag, but the one thing I really feel is missing from my collection is what Filson called a Draftsman Weight. It was a giant paperweight made up of scrap leather. @GzStudio - if you have some sort of connection to the FRD, tell them if they resurrect the draftsman weight from the archives and make one for the Portland store, it will sell quickly!

@GzStudio - now we are talking! I like it. Is the buckle oversize or does it narrow to the usual width?
Makes perfect sense when I stop to think about it. My tin cloth backpack has the wider leather for the straps - which is one of the reasons I chose it - and they are beautiful and surprisingly comfortable.

Makes me wonder about buying a Filson belt in the dark brown and building one of these wider straps using the hardware from the narrower original. That or does anyone know where to get Wickett and Craig leather?!

A question for you too. Is a 257 essentially the same size in the body as a 258 (i.e. minus the padding and front pocket?)
