The Pullman is awesome. A black hole. I traveled internationally for three weeks with one and a Saddleback briefcase and it was more than plenty. I also had no issues carrying on and with putting it in overhead bins but YMMV. Also of note - BB carries the Pullman so if you can wait for one of their 30% off sales, you can get one for good discount (I did).

Thanks for the explanation. I hadn't realized there was such a difference in bridle leather vs. something like CXL. I ride, and I wear an Aero in Horween FQHH, so I'm probably just enthusiastic about Horween because it's the best jacket I've ever had. Anyway, you make excellent points, and I appreciate the info.

I'm with you—the copper rivet is the way to go.

I usually only have about 5 pounds total in my 256, but I always feel like it could take much more than that, if I needed or wanted it to. I've also found it's possible to convert it into a makeshift backpack by running the shoulder strap through the handles. Not comfortable for hours on end, but when I have loaded it down quite a bit, it makes a long walk a lot more comfortable. Is 20 lbs your normal carry load?

Looks like the handles on that 127 (Horween tote) are bridle leather, so it seems like they're anticipating your point about the load-bearing. Wish it had D-rings on the ends, so you could use a shoulder strap as well, if desired. My main resistance to that tote, though, is the wide open interior. I know some people like a very custom organization, but I prefer being told what to do in that regard, or at least given some direction about where might be best to store what. It also looks a little froufrou when compared to the twill. I guess I'm just talking myself back into my 256, which remains fantastic. [IMG]

I had always been a straight tan guy. I still own all tan and think that it would complement the Bedale well, but I have seen the navy in person, and think that I may have to pick one up in the future. I'm not sure how it will look worn, but off the rack, it looks really sharp.

Also worth noting, a lot of employers offer a Brooks Brothers Corporate discount, which is good for 15% off every day. May even stack on their 30% deals. Haven't tried it, but may be worth a shot if you're in the market for one. Just ordered a Large Duffle off of there ($258 - 15%). Not complaining.

Agree with the above. Pullman is the largest Filson that will fit within carry-on requirements (US). Note that fully packed, it's heavy and not particularly enjoyable to carry around for long distances (my opinion). For that reason, I use a 22" wheeled Briggs and Riley whenever it'll fit everything I need. The outer dimensions are similar, but being soft sided and having no wheels/handle, the Filson will fit a lot more if necessary. And I hate checking bags.

Also note that *today* is BB 30% off corporate day. What a coincidence you should bring that up. And yes, it applies to Filson.

Brooks Brothers. Every couple of months they do a 30% off deal. Today is one of those days for Corporate Members, and yes, it does apply to Filson.

Thanks to wdahab for the heads up on the 30% off. Ended up picking up an olive Pullman. Told myself I would wait to buy one until Christmas this year but couldn't turn down 30%. I know I've seen that deal before but I can't remember how often they do it.

Total was $313.55 shipped to Illinois.

Nice man, that's about what I paid for the exact same piece. You won't regret it - and happy early Christmas.

Haberdash actually has 1/3 off using code OURGIFT and it tacks onto Filson. The website is painfully slow, so I just called the shop. Their MSRP is actually a bit lower than elsewhere, so I just nabbed a Pullman for $272.42 shipped to IL. Maybe cancel the Brooks order if you want to save a few bucks.

Treated myself to an early Christmas present- $215 shipping included for a Medium Travel Bag in Otter Green.

I originally wanted either the small duffle or Sportsman, but couldn't pass up the deal on the travel bag.

Has anyone with a Medium Travel Bag ever had difficulties using it as a carry on during flights?

    Thanks

I'm not seeing the Pullman on Haberdash. Was it in stock and they removed from their website?

It was definitely in stock and on the site this morning when I ordered. Maybe a limited supply. I've never shopped there before, so I'm not sure what they generally keep on hand.

One of the best deals I've seen in a while, 33% off, no tax(for us in CA), free shipping if over $100. Brooks Brothers' 25-30% off deals still have tax. Jump on this deal if Haberdash has anything your looking for. I picked up the filson travel dopp kit for $73.90 total shipped with a couple of fillers which will make nice white elephant gifts!

P.S. Haberdash seems to be using some older lower pricing as well on Filson items

I've skimmed quite a bit of this thread and I'm still really torn between the 256 and 257. I like the slimmer profile of the 256 (and love the Harris Tweed version) but also need to fit everything I need. The bag will be used for work and will pretty much always have the following items in it:

15.6" laptop (probably with a sleeve)
    Laptop charger
    iPhone charger
Pile of papers between .5"-1" thick
Various small things (pen, paper, calculator, etc)

I feel like it's better to have a little too much room with the 257 but I don't know. Any thoughts? Thanks.

    256 vs 257
    Alternate use of 257
    257 images

The 256 will fit you. 256 is good for commuting.
Use 257 if you're traveling or carrying more items than that.
However if you want some extra space to carry some unexpected things, then 257 may be better.

+1, but I am actually not sure if the laptop will fit in one of the inner side pockets.

    Thanks for the heads up.

For anyone else looking for a cheap Pullman, Haberdash has one tan one left at their "Roosevelt Collection" location. No more olive.
