Does anyone here still have an unpadded leather shoulder strap for sale? I know Frost River can do it too, but I thought I’d check for the OG product first.

Filson sells the straps. Errr…I just checked and they look padded. I would call customer service and see if they can hook you up.

Alternatively, consider this:

https://www.filson.com/wide-bridle-leather-shoulder-strap.html#sku=20053478-fco-000000096

Speedy turned me on to that one. It’s a great strap! Also, call the outlet.

Good luck.

Thanks! Frost River is only $45 for the 1” version, so it’s pretty tough to beat.

EDIT: the outlet is a good idea though.

Currently a leather journeyman, but that’s just while I get it broken in before the baby gets here in a few weeks. I am LOVING it btw. I usually carry a denim workshop bag in the model of the 70016 (tin cloth original briefcase) which is very similar to the 70256. I also carry an FDR 260 which has become an excellent daily driver for the last 3 years. Wow, can’t believe it’s been that long! View attachment 1653346

I received my leather Journeyman last week. Love the veg tanned leather and the design! Can’t wait until it’s broken in.

Your tote has a nice patina. The little guy looks comfy in there!

On my way to Iowa and Indiana for a family trip with my Mom and Sister. Going to the Iowa State Fair, Field Of Dreams experience, Indianapolis Speedway, and a handful of self guided caves. First leg is 12 hours of driving.

Chose to pack lighter then usual, well not really considering my GR2 34L is like 15 pounds :fonz: . Nice to have my Filson 264 as a spillover bag.

Anyone have a natural Filson collar or leash that’s been well worn in? Curious to see how dark it can get.

Also picked up this little guy yesterday!

Here are the picture for you.
- First and third image- two filson collars side by side.
-second image- you can see material is brass plated and will wear off
- fourth image I added their current collar from “gun dog supply” which is saddle leather and costs around $25 and comes with a free brass name plate. If you do buy the filson these guys sell it and give you the option of the free name plate.
-fifth image the gun dog supply collar is about twice as thick.
The filson collars have about 6 years of hard use on them- upland and waterfowl hunting, snow, mud, water etc. The leather has held up nicely the brass was a disappointment.
hope this helps.

Awesome, thanks man. Appreciate the insight. I’m liking the color it ages to but not sure about the quality for the price. I ended up going with bark and willow. Hand made to order in CA and but slightly cheaper than Filson.

I just checked the ones I got from Gun dog, they were under 20 and the leather is every bit as good and it is real brass. In the end it’s just the name and as you can see not worth the price. That said, 18 years ago I bought the puppy collar for our Norfolk and he wore that collar until he died in May of 2020. It was real brass. So at some point they went cheap and switched to the plated material. I would never pay that again for a collar when I can get better quality for a quarter of the price. Good luck with that good looking pup! Obedience, socialization and mental stimulation at and early age onward go a long way for an enjoyable life.

Hi all, stumbled across this thread looking for advice on the Filson Small Rugged Twill Pullman. I traveled frequently for business prior to Covid and it looks like travel is close to coming back. My trip duration is probably going to change from 3-4 days average to 1-2 days average. I did a 1 day trip recently and one-bagged it and was struck with how nice it was to not stress about overhead space. Realistically, I’m normally going to travel with my briefcase but I was looking for feedback on whether the small Pullman would be an versatile and easy to stash in the overhead alternative to my carry on roller for 2 days trips. I’m looking for something that I can squeeze in the overhead with relative ease if things get tight. Thanks in advance!

I have both the small and large Pullman and love them both! The small sounds like it will be perfect for you. The large is easy to overpack, but if you are disciplined with what you pack, easily “flops” down in size and can be used for carry-on. I typically use the large for car travel as I almost always overpack. Lol.

A tale as old as time:
Guess I need to buy that duffel I've been wanting before they start making them in Vietnam!

Interestingly, my last two FRD bags came with unpadded shoulder straps (like they used to do when they were using Talon zippers). Not sure if the switch happened the same time as the switch to YKK zippers, but all the old bags I have that have Talon zippers also have the unpadded shoulder strap and pad.

The very beginning of the YKK era through 2005 still had padless shoulder straps. They have also gone back to the unpadded for a couple of bags- the recently re-discontinued small compartment bag was one and the weatherproof satchel was another.
