HarleyBob, Which model did you try? Lace-ups or double monks? As I said, truth be told, these are not Allen Edmonds or even C&J. We stock C&J and Bally in our shop and people who are prepared, and can afford, to pay 400 EUR+ plus can of course get themselves a pair of "lifetimers" and don't look back but consider a student on loans or even a laborer who wants to wear something stylish that isn't from one of the big budgets chains - I may be way out on this one but I don't see the harm in going for FDG. I am no shoe-expert whatsoever, but in my own trials of the shoe it hasn't disappointed me yet.

I would advice said student to scour the interwebs for used shoes or seconds of respected manufacturers. I had a pair of fdg double monks. Simply not worth it.

They were single monk shoes. It wouldn't have mattered what style they were, they were absolute crap. Buyer beware!
