Connemara, I went to work the Grand Canyon Mule concession for two seasons. I went, pridefull in knowing a lot about horses and communicating with them. I was no 'horse whisperer' either, sometimes speaking LOUD AND CLEAR. I took pride too in never banging on one. I looked forward to working with mules, an animal actually smarter and more durable than it's mother. And for a few weeks I got along spendidly with the already well trained and mannered mounts. Then one day this John Mule took it in his head to make my life miserable. I struggled, did all the things right a good horseman does. Finally one of the other packers walked over, belly kicked the mule, took a latigo and wanged on the mule's Cordovan region and lastly BIT IT'S EAR. He finally handed the lead rope back to me with a fully compliant animal. " Kav, sometimes you got to get the SOBs attention!" Look at how animals establish pecking orders. it's no less tough.
Can you do the same to Conne?
