Feedback on an Ebay seller

Just wanted to relay a little feedback about this seller, bebmak. Take from it what you will.

I bid on his paid of Sandons, then asked what shipping was to the U.S. He said 20 GBP. Not ridiculous, though not amazing. However, it is almost $40 with today's exchange rates, and to make a long story short, I decided to retract my bid about 5 minutes after it had been placed, and right after he wrote back to me about the shipping.

It is worth noting that my "bid retraction" may very well have been against Ebay policy, though who knows. It's probably not worth getting into since his "CROCKETT AND JONES CONNAUGHT CHESTNUT UK 7 E lobb" are against Ebay's keyword spamming policy. In any event, that was the position. Right or wrong, people retract bids on Ebay. And I did it here.

30 seconds later I get an email:

"Whats going on with the retraction,I dont think entered wrong amount is valid when you entered £280,please show some transparency.
Carl"

Then, 11 minutes later:

"DON'T BE SHY!!!!"

I hadn't planned on responding, but ultimately did after this second email, saying:

"No shyness, shipping is just too much.
Good day,
zj"

To which I get the response:

"Whats the shipping on your Bruno Magli's to the UK?
By the way if you took the time to read the ad it tells you worldwide shipping is £20,£2 less than what it costs me to send them."

[For what it's worth, this is completely false. Nowhere did it say worldwide shipping in the ad. However, that's not really the point Im trying to make here.]

Then, 5 minutes later:

"Oh and another thing Nick Anderson charges £18 which you will gladly pay but you won't pay £20.I bet your wife loves living with you!!!"

Anyway, take from this back-and-forth what you will, I just wanted to put it out there for SF members to determine whether they want to do business with this seller, as Ebay feedback usually does not paint the full picture. As I say, my bid retraction may very well have been wrong, but would that justify this seller's foaming-at-the-mouth reaction to a potential customer...?

Well, there it is.

Thanks for the feedback. I don't think I'll be bidding on any of his items in the future.

Retractions do happen, but sellers should never be so pushy.

I wouldn't be too crazy about a bid retraction either, but I wouldn't get bent out of shape if it hadn't cost me another bidders opportunity. Sounds like a seller that might be difficult to deal with.

Dude, this guy has serious mental problems. Keep in mind, I have not egged him on at all - I have only sent one communication to him, posted above.

So, this morning, I got a bid cancellation notice on a pair of shoes I have listed, and the following email:

This message was sent while the listing was active.
bebmak is a potential buyer.

Just had to retract a bid on these bad boys,I bid $1,000,000 as I really needed to have them because they are the epitome of style and class(clears his throat). However my wife wants a new house so I will have to pass.
I am truly sorry.

I'm hoping he doesn't have my address, or I might have to sleep with one eye open. I've clearly hurt him deeply, and this is eating him up inside.

Just one question,I have looked at the listing and it says worldwide shipping is £20,so why bid and then ask the cost if it is already listed.(unless he has added this later).
The reason I am sensitive to this is the fact that I am an occasional seller of shoes amongst other things and I am in the UK and that is what it costs to send shoes to the USA.What did you expect to pay?
I don't really agree with airing your dirty linen in public especially when the seller is probably totally unaware this site exists and can't fight back. And finally his feedback looks excellent with only 1 bid retraction(which is probably the moronic $1,000,000 bid on your item)whereas you have 6 in the last 6 months.
By the way I am not looking to pick a fight but to call this guy deranged etc....is a bit strong because if you had done that to me I would be seriously pissed off.

An update,I have just been looking at the listing again(I am a sucker for that 4800 last and they are my size)and it seems someone has told the seller about this site and he has responded saying the emails were 2 ways and that you have done this to him before.Maybe there are 2 sides to this story?

gotta agree with benecios. most of the top ebay shoe sellers from the UK ship shoes worldwide at 25 GBP, so the seller you're pissed off at is shipping at below the market price....

Herring shoes, for example, ships at 23 gpb and pediwear ships at 18 gpb. His shipping prices aren't out of line.

If Z was such a egregious and repeat offender, why didn't the seller simply block Z from bidding on his auctions? It's easy enough to do.

Andrew as I said earlier I don't to get into a fight defending somebody I don't even know and I have no idea why he didnt block Z but the nagging question persists what did he expect shipping to cost?
As a UK seller it annoys me when buyers expect me to take a hit on the shipping.£20 is what it costs give or take a £1.
Ok if the seller was asking for £50 you retract the bid and warn people off but £20,I just don't get it.
