Definitely a must when in Chi, but imo Art of Pizza was just on a completely different level.

One thing that bothers me about Lou's, although I can't really put my finger on it, is that their flash frozen pizzas you can buy online are almost as good as the real thing if you cook them right. That's actually a good thing, but something about it just doesn't seem right, you know? Like eating the real thing in the restaurant should totally blow away the home version, except...it doesn't.

Whatever. Great pizzas both, and the pizza wars of Chicago will rage as long as the city is around.

Damn, I love pizza. My favorites are: Lombardi's, Grimaldi's and a few spots in Chicago for deep dish.

what is your favorite pizza? i like my crust thin, but not crispy, with a lot of cheese and the sauce on the spicy side. for toppings:

garlic and sun-dried tomatoes, or garlic and pepperoni, or plain cheese

i always use the crushed red pepper flakes.

My parents grew up in New York City, and moved to California shortly after they were married. They believed that California pizza was terrible in comparison to NY pizza, so me and my brothers never even got a chance to try pizza until I was 12 or 13 years old. As a result, I'm not picky at all about pizza: I like frozen pizza, take-out pizza (Domino's, Pizza Hut, whatever), even the cheap pizza that's on the menu at school cafeterias. It's all good.

Oh, you guys are talking about great pizza places? Well, you're all wrong. Accept that.

The BEST pizza on God's green earth is a place called Brooklyn Pizza Works in placentia, orange county, CA, on Imperial Highway. This shit is no joke, I've been eating there on a regular basis for over 10 years because it's the most addictive pizza I've ever had. In fact, most of the customers there are strictly regulars, some of them have been eating there weekly for the past 20 years. Total die hards.

But seriously, this shit's delicious. 100% new york style, their cooks are like perfectionists. It bothers them if a pepperoni is out of place. Try the Mild Maggie and the East Coast Greasy. Order them THIN AND CRISPY. Very important.

100% awesomeness. Do it. Really friendly service too. Also try the zappolis for desert.

This month's GQ has an article naming the best 25 pies in the US.
I was surprised that my neighborhood place made it: Gialina #14.
I'll have to give it another try.

I don't know about #1 pizza in America, but Great Lake is hands down the best pizza I've ever had and probably the best pizza in Chicago, but at 20+ bucks a pie it should be.
