Civilization
Colonization
Warcraft (NOT WoW)
Starcraft
Age of Empires series (empire earth, age of mythology, etc etc)

That's pretty much the only style PC game I can get into.
I did play Deus Ex all the way through, and that was a great game. But I'm not that into FPS.

Last time I asked the same question people recommended the Total War series.
The last Steam sale (2 days ago) I bought Braid and World of Goo. Both are pretty good.

I have Empire: Total War and Rome: Total War (and the Alexander add-on). Both are great, IMO.

The last PC game I played was Counter-Strike. The fiance (then gf) got me Call of Duty 3 years ago. I wasn't able to install because I didn't have an updated videocard.

If you like rpgs, you could go back in time and try the Baldur's Gate series and Planescape:Torment.
I generally prefer older games because they focus less on graphics and more on scenario, dialogues and gameplay.
I was playing D&D online with a group and it seemed like playing Counterstrike. The others were killing stuff and my elven ranger was entertaining the group

If you're playing on the PC and like shooters, you could try getting STALKER with a lot of the realism mods to make it much more challenging. Ditto goes for Fallout 3, but that doesn't really feel like a "true" FPS to me, so ymmv.

Of course, you could always go play World of Warcraft if wasting time is what you're after.
