I am new to this forum (I have browsed this siite for months and finally stopped procrastinating and made an account this week). I was wondering if anyone can point me to a solid necktie maker for around $50-60 (still in school with a limited budget). I have a few Brooks Brothers and Ralph Lauren ties, but after a few months they lose their luster (look dull in color) and begin developing pulls. Someone told me to look on e-bay but I feel like those will have the same problems (thats why they are being sold).

Also, if anyone knows a link showing the various necktie folds I'd appreciate it. I'm getting sick of the full windsor and think I'm doing it wrong anyway. Thanks.

You could spend the extra $20 and get some from Sam/David Hober ties. They are quite nice.

    Just google "mens tie knots".

I have a lot of nice ties from Tom Ford, Kiton, Borrelli, Hermes, Charvet, Marinella, Drakes etc and Sam Hober ties are at least as good or better then any of them.

That $20 includes shipping, duties, taxes, customs etc...???

You know it doesn't, but it isn't like shipping from American manufacturers is free either, unless you buy X amount of dollars.

Get some nice stuff on the B&S here, or pick up nice ties from thrift stores where you can see before you buy.

And what Brooks Brothers or Ralph Lauren ties are you buying that pull so quickly? I've never had that problem with Brooks. Are you sure it's not something you're doing?

As for my favorite brand, I find a lot of my favorite ties are Roger Talbotts. You can usually get the main line ones at Nordstrom Rack for $40, occasionally the Best of Class line shows up too, at varying price points. Or e-bay, or thrift stores, or the Buy and Sell forum here.

Oh, whatever. I didn't double check, and I never really think about the first name. Nice ties regardless.

If you can afford to buy four or five, I recommend EG Cappelli. Shipping is expensive, but waived if you purchase at least four or five (I don't remember exactly).

If you can't purchase four or five, then - at least at retail - I would say Brooks. They shouldn't look dull or develop pulls. I assume you've just been mistreating them.

Drake's - current favorite, decent styling, good quality, 3in is my sweet spot.
Kiton - great quality and style, but too wide
Thom Browne - love their styling and fabric. Many of their ties are cut from their suit fabrics
    BoO - decent quality, fashionable
Jil Sander - good quality, good variety of widths, fashionable
