1955 thru 1965.....has it all!! beatles already released and had many goodins' in the can ,...brian jones was still alive & in the stones (but wanted to join the beatles), hendrix was ramping it up, so was the rest of the claptons , becks, paiges, ..yardbirds....zombies and hollies were at it too...alot of the real USA blues thing was still active, & rock n' roll that still rolled: chuck berry , elvis, jerry lee, buddy holly,.... frank zappa was in gear as well...the fugs & moondog were on scene ..in the world of jazz the big bands were scaled down to the most powerful: ellington, basie, buddy rich, harry james, kenton...bird & diz were be-bopin', monk was on it, ...louis armstrong, bechet, teagarden were an alive link to the origins ..and miles was just starting to cause trouble ...NRBQ was in its' embryo stage as the 7of us,...heifetz, horowitz recited, ....and igor stravinsky and the three stooges played baseball w/each other!!

And ZZ Top is amazing.

the 1970s since it was the birth of punk, oi, and ska revival

but the 70s are more famous for arena rock of its day, so if it were a mainstream perception of the decade I'd pick the 80s
