A nice estate, but 95 million? Give me a fucking break.

A lot of garish interior design in that home.

Conne, where do you rank the SoCal2NYC estate in your list of favorite homes?

Exactly some of the rooms look like they were decorated by Master P. With their money you'd imagine they'd hire someone with better taste.

The house is OK, but that RV kicks absolute ass.

+1 The Biltmore, Hearst's Castle and the Breakers in Newport are more "over the top," but my favorite is Stan Hywet in Akron Ohio. Stan Hywet matches the quality of the others, but actually manages to be tasteful and feel like a home. [IMG] The grounds are especially nice. [IMG] Akron, Ohio is in one of the most beautiful parts of the U. S.

Regarding houses that don't exist anymore, one of the most interesting looking was the Mark Hopkins Mansion, which stood on the site of the current Mark Hopkins Hotel. Being on the top of Nob Hill, it would have looked over downtown San Francisco. Although the house looks quite substantial, it was made of wood and burned to the ground during the 1906 earthquake.

I think you must mean Schindler - Shulman is the architectural photographer. A friend of mine lives in a Schindler. Small, but beautiful, and filled with amazing details.

Yes, thanks. I had just that day picked up a book Shulman's photos of Palm Springs houses as a gift for the wife, which partially explains my brain cramp.

the home that got me interested in architecture in the first place: Lawson/Westen House, Eric Owen Moss, Brentwood, CA [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] -Jeff
Have you seen Moss's Petal House in west LA? Far less impressive (small house on a small lot fairly close to the 10 freeway), but still interesting. We toyed with the idea of buying it instead of our current house, but pedestrian practicality got the better of us. This is it: http://http://www.ericowenmoss.com/index.php?/projects/project/petal_house/

It's like something that a slightly tasteful dictator might have.
