I think everyone has at least one favorite historic or modern residence. Post some pics and tell us where it is. Monticello. Just beyond words. [IMG] Shirley Plantation is one of the oldest plantations in the country. It's in VA. [IMG] George Eastman House, the Rochester residence of Kodak founder George Eastman. [IMG] The Charles Schwab Mansion, no longer in existence. [IMG] [IMG] Kykuit, the Westchester County residence of the Rockefellers. Forbes magazine claimed Kykuit contains the finest gardens in America. [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

Good call. In LA/SoCal, there are also some Lautner and Shulman houses I really admire.

Is anyone else particularly fond of Georgian (I guess it's Federalist in the U.S.) architecture? I would kill to live in a house like this: [IMG]

Georgian houses are better in England.

Personally, I like some of the Modernist houses in America. For traditional stuff, it's better to look at the European nations--I particularly like Portuguese castles and manors.

I think you must mean Schindler - Shulman is the architectural photographer. A friend of mine lives in a Schindler. Small, but beautiful, and filled with amazing details.

Greg pointed out the be-all, end all for me. Falling Water is just incredible.

Also, Lake House. Even though the final design was done by Heinz, the original sketches were done by FLW. Another masterful work of art.
