So.. I have a weird list of hobbies: orchids, clothing/shoes, professional wrestling/MMA, and anime. Soon, I plan on adding wine to the mix and watches in maybe 6-7 years when I can finally afford one that I want (

JLC and Patek, the latter of which I'll probably never be able to afford). I digress.

My favorite show/anime of all time would probably have to be Berserk followed by the Kenshin OVAs and then perhaps Hellsing, because I loved the animation. I'll throw a bone to Ninja Scroll because I can as well.

I just finished Basilisk, which was excellent. On the "to-do list," I have Paranoia Agent, Twelve Kingdoms, Gantz, Gankutsuou, Wolf's Rain (seen up 'til ep. 8 then got a new gf, and stopped with the anime for awhile ;P), and Samurai 7. I tend toward, obviously, the combat heavy or peculiar anime.. I still haven't seen the last episode of Lain, which I plan on re-watching (the series).

What d'ya like? Do you consider DBZ lame?

I'm always looking for additions to the "gotta see it" category.

Check out Bleach. The Fan subs are widely available for d/l. Pretty good story line. Good animation.

Um... you are posting in the Cowboy Bebop thread... so I'm assuming you've seen that. If not... do so immediately. Trigun is also pretty good. Samurai7 is good. Boogiepop Phantom is very different than most other things I've seen, not really my cup of tea, but a lot of other people like it.

I'll add more as I remember them.

Cowboy Bebop definitely one of the most stylish and unique animes.

My PERSONAL favorite is Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex. It's truer to the spirit of the anime than the movie - more fun, more character, more side-notes. Each episode has a great action movie/detective story feel, and you really get attached to characters like Batou and Togusa, as well as the Major. But what I love is that it makes you think. I really sat down after finishing eps.1-26 and thought about identity in the digital age, and that's awesome. Add in absolutely gorgeous animation and brilliant music, and you've got an A-1+ series. Not to mention Motoko is HOT.

Second is probably FLCL, because hey, who needs acid when you have guitar duels in Japanese suburbs and quasi-incestous sex?

Third would have to be Samurai Champloo, because it's just, well, awesome. Hip-hop+samurai = can't fail.

I wanna see Rurouni Kenshin, because I hear good things, and the new GitS movie. Also, I need to finish watching a good subtitled version of Outlaw Star - the dub sucks.

Ghost in the Shell (SAC is excellent, but Innocence is one of my favorite movies ever), Cowboy Bebop, and Kino no Tabi.

Augusto, stay away from Kenshi. The OVA is superb. It's Kurosawa in anime. The series is a pile of pathetic garbage. How the two have anything to do with eachother, I will never understand.

Honorable mentions to Champloo for being awesome, if lightweight, Hellsing for being pure style over substance, and the Escaflowne movie for not being like the Escaflowne series.

Dragonball Z is my first love, I will always respect it. Bebop blew my mind because the experience is so all encompassing. The anime hits on all cylinders and is just a joy.

Perfect Blue is my favorite anime film, I felt so many emotions watching it, followed by all of Miyazaki work, I love his use of color and seeing his distinct art style much more than the Dragonball Z creators art style.

I watch anime mostly for the music. Yoko Kanno I admire, she lead to Nobuo Uematsu (Black Mages

), etc Hellsing had great music, Kenshin did too. Samurai Champloo had good muse but the anime was so boring.

I also love Blackjack!
Ronin Warriors
Outlaw Star
Gundam Wing is the best of the seires I feel, G Gundam was good, 0080
Yu Yu Hakusho is brilliant!
Macross
I loved Yu-Gi-Oh
Street Fighter animes are good too
Starting to watch Bleach now

Sad that I didn't mention FLCL, Champloo or Paranoia Agent first. All awesome, but my favorite of those three must be Paranoia Agent. Battle of the Planets is a romp. Saw that with my senses "enhanced" a couple weekends ago. I said it before, but WOLFs RAIN is superlative. My local library has a bevvy of anime dvds, just don't know what to look at next. They've got the run of Rurouni Kenshin Trigun and uh... fruits baskets... dunno. caps.

Yeah, I just wanted tosee what a "Serious" historical samurai Anime was like. Innocence is gorgeous, but what the **** is going on in that crack-ass sequence in the house of mirrors-type place???

As another plug for GitS, the only time I ever actually started cry watching any TV show was when the Tachikoma are fighting the armored suit dude to save Batou.

Grave of the Fireflies, Koji.

If you want to count Miyazaki, I love almost everything he's made, esp. Porco Rosso, My Neighbor Totoro and Spirited Away. Otherwise: Neon Genesis Evangelion (how has this not been mentioned?). Also Gunsmith Cats was good.

As for what's next, I'm not really into anime anymore but I do want to buy all of the Miyazakis (I currently have three).

Cowboy Bebop is my current affair. She's very exciting and drew me in the first time I saw her.

Dragonball Z was my first love as well. But after a while, she became very confusing and always left when something was about to happen... when I had waited out ten times at least.

I was wondering why Koji was always depressed... now I know...
Constant exposure to Grave Of The Fireflies.
