This is one of Mine- Respiration (Remix) Blackstar and Black Thought

Talib Kweli)
We lyrically rich, listed, spiritually fit
Eating healthy, coming clean never filthy
In God's eyes I'm wealthy
Felt the power as I entered the palace of 7 lights
Time traveled with dissipating on battles my brethren fight
For birth rights they already got, and shouldn't have to get
Break down the steady plot that's accurate
Bust the shots that's immaculate
Take it to your nugget cause my beloveds covet they freedom
Believe it put nothing above it loving to leave it
We blessed with free will so we choose to be ill
Like sharks keep it grooving we could never be still
Swimming in the channel of life
The orators of rhymes handling mics
Tiptoeing through the corridors of your mind with candlelights
Everlasting in your hood like liquor stores and check cash
Flashing passes for classes of the third past then blast it
Makaveli 4, I'm betting on brothers who have nothing to live for
To give more to the struggle, they already at war
So much on my mind I just can't recline
Blastin holes til the night bled sunshine
Breathe in, Breathe out
Heard the bass ride out like an ancient mating call
I can't take it, I can feel the city breathing
(Mos Def)
I push my pen and wrote this scribe
Like the morning wouldn't find me alive
I'm surrounded on all sides
By the kind in the pool, wise men and the fool
Young guns in tennis school get no glasses and glue
Get yours, get it right
Get down, get paid, get ass, get around
Get on, get fly, get jig and get high
Live to get and you'll only end up getting by
When the nighttime covers the city like a coat
I approach and assemble my host
Enter nosed? caught asleep in the city that don't
Cause I won't that you rest noises on your doorstep
Dump the stress
Police the park, mam, raise the park bench on nonsense
Cause they fail to see the brothers' conference
Regardless we bond tight and we rumble all day to break night
Daylight why we living to death, you ain't right
The same fight about my nighttime habits is mad static
But the city's just so alive that I just got to have it
The planet of Brook-LAWN is what I look on
Ghetto chef rock your vest while you getting your cook on
Dedicating this song to Scott LaRock, Big and pop
Call ?Nature Ray?, Betty Carter and John Henry CLark
Romp around and freedom fights going down
You set the pace, now you finish the race
It's on now
So much on my mind I just can't recline
Blasting holes til the night bled sunshine
Breathe in, Breathe out
Heard the bass ride out like an ancient mating call
I can't take it, I can feel the city breathing
(Bridge)
Don't get too close because you might get shot
Don't get too close because you might get shot
(Black Thought)
One's for the treble, two's for the bass
Up in your face, just taking up space
On the case like Blodrack?, drugs like Prozac
Flavor and you know dat kid that ****'s so fat
Downlo devious, previous mischevious
Looking like a feeling, here to make a killing
Appealing to the hiphop crowd rowdy loud
RahRahRah and harrass pay me cash
A late night excursion looking and listening
To scenes I be fitting in the rhyme that I'm getting in
Finishing the job I'm total asset pass it
My eyes so red that broke bread I pack nuff lead
This is how I want it part of the storm
So when I 8 for the dome then blow the spot is blown
Do you understand it the mic, yo, I demanded
Riffing, it doesn't make a difference
Don't get too close because you might get shot
Is it real, huh? Is it really is that buddha
In the philly, I let the smoke influenced me to laught at jokes
When I'm writing down the hot on paper
So I create beats to trigger up my flamer
Then I commence to set it off with a sentence
"Whack emcees keep your distance"
Instantly just like a bomb of the mic is in my palm
I do harm but coolly calm with the firearms
Dangerous flavorous
Lyrically miracle street life material
Kept up in the stereo so here we go for niggas know what's up
Oh yeah, the hardcore ****
Making chumps forfeit
Walking on you, stepping on you just like a doormat
Check the format, definitely all that
The extreme dopest getting focus
Now I'm gonna spark this, now I'm gonna smoke this
Don't get too close because you might get shot

i said a hip hop the hippie the hippie
to the hip hip hop, a you dont stop
the rock it to the bang bang boogie say up jumped the boogie
to the rhythm of the boogie, the beat

now what you hear is not a test--i'm rappin to the beat
and me, the groove, and my friends are gonna try to move your feet
see i am wonder mike and i like to say hello
to the black, to the white, the red, and the brown, the purple and yellow
but first i gotta bang bang the boogie to the boogie
say up jump the boogie to the bang bang boogie
let's rock, you dont stop
rock the riddle that will make your body rock
well so far youve heard my voice but i brought two friends along
and next on the mike is my man hank
come on, hank, sing that song

check it out, i'm the c-a-s-an-the-o-v-a
and the rest is f-l-y
ya see i go by the code of the doctor of the mix
and these reasons i'll tell ya why
ya see i'm six foot one and i'm tons of fun
and i dress to a t
ya see i got more clothes than muhammad ali and i dress so viciously

Can't think of an absolute favorite, but:

Scarface/Geto Boys - Mind Playin Tricks on Me
Wu Tang - CREAM
David Banner - Cadillacs on 22's (not at all what it sounds like)

Less serious but still clever/funny/well-written:

Ice Cube - No Vaseline
NWA - **** Tha Police
Deltron 3030 - Entire album
Eminem - Guilty Conscience

Plus a lot from MF Doom, Notorious BIG, etc.

"*** On Everybody"

My favoite color is red, like the blood shed
from Kurt Cobain's head, when he shot himself dead
Women all grabbin at my shishkabob
Bought Lauryn Hill's tape so her kids could starve
(I can't stand white people!)
You thought I was ill, now I'm even more so
**** I got full blown AIDS and a sore throat
I got a wardrobe with an orange robe {*wolf whistle*}
I'm in the fourth row, signin autographs at your show
(Yo can you sign this right here?)
I just remembered that I'm absent minded
Wait, I mean I've lost my mind, I can't find it
I'm freestylin every verse that I spit
cause I don't even remember the words to my **** (umm, one two)
I told the doc I need a change in sickness
and gave a girl herpes in exchange for syphilis
Put my LP on your Christmas gift list
You wanna get high, here ***** just sniff this

*** on everybody -- get down tonight (8X)

Yo.. yo yo yo yo
I tried suicide once and I'll try it again
That's why I write songs where I die at the end
Cause I don't give a ****, like my middle finger was stuck
and I was wavin it at everybody screamin, "I suck" (I SUCK!!!)
I go on stage in front of a sellout crowd
and yell out loud, "All y'all get the hell out now"
**** rap, I'm givin it up y'all, I'm sorry
(But Eminem this is your record release party!)
I'm bored out of my gourd -- so I took a hammer
and nailed my foot to the floorboard of my Ford
Guess I'm just a sick sick bastard
who's one sandwich short of a picnic basket (I ain't got it all)
One Excederin tablet short of a full medicine cabinet
I feel like my head has been shredded like lettuce and cabbage
(ohhhhhhh) And if you ever see a video for this ****
I'll probably be dressed up like a mummy with my wrists ****

*** on everybody -- get down tonight (8X)

Got bitches on my jock out in East Detroit
Cause they think that I'm a motherfuckin Beastie Boy {*wolf whistle*}
So I told em I was Mike D
They was like, "Gee I don't know, he might be!"
I told em, "Meet me at Kid Rock's next concert
I'll be standin by the Loch Ness Monster (okay) peace out (bye!!)"
Then I jetted to the weed house
Smoked out til I started bustin freestyles
Broke out then I dipped quick back to the crib, put on lipstick
Crushed up the Tylenol and ate it with a dipstick (*slurping*}
Made a couple of crank calls collect [*brrrrrrring, click*]
"Ken Kaniff from Connecticut, can you accept?"
I wanna make songs all the fellas dub
And murder every rich rapper that I'm jealous of
So just remember when I bomb your set
Yo, I only cuss to make your mom upset

*** on everybody -- get down tonight

Eat some beans and very soon
Everybody in the place would leave the room
And for some reason I can’t reveal
So pass me a banana so I can peel

I slide to the kitchen
Stuff my face
Leavin not one crumb in the place

Cuz i can bust with raps
Back to back
And I’ll devour any MC as if he were a snack

I’ll eat and eat and drink and drink
And I’ll tell you one thing
My bref don’t stink

I always liked this verse by Andre3000, more because of his voice and delivery, but the lyrics are good too:

Too Democratic, Republic *******
We chicken nugget, we dip in the sauce like mop and bucket
Blue-collar scholars, who'll take your dollar and wipe ****** wit it
You livin for the lotto never hit it
I met a critic, I made her **** her drawers
She said she thought hip-hop was only guns and alcohol
I said "Oh hell naw!" But yet it's that too
You can't discrimi-hate cause you done read a book or two
What if I looked at you in a microscope, saw all the dirty organisms
living in your closet would I stop and would I pause it? Whoo!
To put that ***** in slower motion, got the potion and the antidote
And a quote for collision the decision.. is,
do you want to live or wanna exist?
The game changes everyday so obsolete is the fist and marches
Speeches only reaches those who already know about it
This is how we go about it

Some Ghostface-

4th Chamber
Why is the sky blue? Why is water wet?
Why did Judas rat to Romans while Jesus slept? Stand up
You're out of luck like two dogs stuck
Iron Man be sippin rum, out of Stanley Cups, unflammable
Noriega, aimin knives which stay windy in Chicago
spine-tingle, mind boggles
Kangols in rainbow colors, promoters try to hold dough
Give me mine before Po, wrap you up in so-and-so
I ran the Dark Ages, Constantine and great Henry the Eighth
Built with Ghengis Khan, the wreck suede wiley Don

Probably Kanye's best verse ever, from his remix of Talib Kweli's Get By (which he also produced) also featuring Mos Def, Jay-Z, Kweli, and Busta Rhymes.

(Kanye's verse)
It's on I'm packin' weight like Nina Simone piano flow
It's like a Michaelangelo painted a portrait of Maya Angelou
And gave it to a sick poet for the antidote
If music gets you choked up this is the tree and a rope
This is shy ***** I mista all of that
F**k a map, let's put this ***** on the almanac
Dice what they hittin' for, 'lax what you sittin' on
Tracks who you spittin' on, rap 'til we get it on
And don't let nobody with the power to sign
Ever tell you you ain't got the power to rhyme
They used to tell me toughen up
Put some bass in your voice
They used to tell me lighten up
Put some Mase in your voice
Lord willin' I ain't killed nobody
But I have a feelin' this album
That I'm gonna make a killin'
Or not a shillin'
This is love it or hate it music
But, at least we made it music
And we didn't make it industry
This is gon' be interesting
This'll be the end of me or I'm fit'n be an entity
Kanye, Jay-Z, Mos Def, and Kweli
We are not makin' songs no more
We're makin' history

The one I've got stuck in my head right now is from "Lady Don't Tek No" by Latryx (this is from memory so forgive the mistakes)

People stand curious/bout the natural way her hips sway furious
Her hair is luxurious/Carries her self like the cutest most purdiest
Thing this side of the Bay/Go about her business so purposefully
She got a razor-sharp wit and she just won't quit/floating it with body built like a house made out of brick
She got the style, the smile, and the finesse/bound with a blessed and profound intellect/Select few ever seen her buck naked and they too want to see her rep protected

This aint the down its the upbeat
Make it complete
So whats the story?
Guaranteed accuracy enhanced cd
Latest technology, darts at treble 20
Huge non-recuparable advance
Majors be vigilent
I excel in both content and deliverance
So lets put on our classics
And well ave a little dance, shall we?
No sales pitch, no media hype
No hydro, its nice and ripe
I speak in communication in bold type
This aint yer archetypal street sound
Scan for ultrasound north, south, east, west
And all round and then to the underground
You say that every thing sounds the same
Then you go buy them! theres no excuses my friend
Lets push things forward

The Streets

"There's a big difference between putting words over some music, and blending
those same words into the music. There's not a lot of humour. They use a lot of
slang and colloquialisms, and you don't really see inside the person. Instead, you
just get a lot of posturing."

I have plenty of favorites.. Lupe Fiasco definately delivers in terms of lyrical complexity. I've listened to Food & Liquor a thousand times and probably caught a small part of all the details.

And where's the champagne? We need champagne
Now look as hard as you can with this blunt in your hand
And now hold up your chain slow motion through the flames
Now cue the smoke machines and the simulated rain
But not too loud 'cause the baby's sleepin
I wonder if it knows what the world is keepin
Up both sleeves while he lay there dreamin
Me and my robot tip-toe 'round creepin
I had to turn my back on what got you paid
I couldn't see half the hood on me like Abu Ghraib
But I'd like to thank the streets that drove me crazy
And all the televisions out there that raised me

Do you fools listen to music or do you just skim through it?
trying to show the complexity here:

stack my paper and throw off my cents
this is top flow look out below
pennies from heaven is the same as a semi from the second
and i rain supreme
turn your umbrellas upside down
did you even catch the change in theme
you see im a roller right so it might be a rover right
but every time i drop a R get of the streets it over ight
I wave till i come back a tsunami
never microwaved like the the watches of the way
im wrapped in aluminium foil
runners at interscope are not a stout as him
please don’t enter scope
its gon be a whole lot of ivene and respirating
if I lean out this window with Irene
stout = Steve Stoute, vp of interscope
scope = from interscope > scope of a gun maybe?
lean out the window with Irene = gun?

I'm just trying to do the opposite of left
as long as there's the opposite of death
yes if you test then I might just bring the opposite of life
until there's no one the opposite of right

gonna see you again I'm sure of it

I'm not a huge Jedi Mind Tricks fan, but Uncommon Valor is one of the most intense tracks I've ever heard, R.A. the Rugged Man's verse gives me mad chills every single time:

Illegitimate killers, US Military guerrillas
This ain't no real war, Vietnam sh*t
World War II, that's a war, this is just a military conflict
Soothin' drug abusin', Vietnamese women screwin'
Sex, gambling and boozin', all this sh*t is amusin'
B*tches and guns, this is every man's dream
I don't wanna go home where I'm just an ordinary human being
Special Op, Huey chopper gun ship run sh*t
G**k run when the minigun spit, won't miss
Kill sh*t, spit four-thousand bullets a minute
Victor Charlie, hit trigger, hit it, I'm in it to win it
Get it, the lieutenant hinted, the villain, I ended up killin
I did it, cripple, did it, pictures I painted is vivid, live it
A wizard with weapons, the secret mission, we 'bout to begin it
Government funded, behind enemy lines
Bullets is sprayin'
, it's heatin' up a hundred degrees
The enemies the North Vietnamese, b*tch please
Ain't no sweat, I'm told, "Be at ease"
Until I see the pilot got hit, and we 'bout to hit some trees
Tail Rotor broke, crash land
American man in Cambodia, right in the enemy hand
Take a swig of the Whiskey to calm us
Them yellow men wearin' black pajamas, they wanna harm us
They all up on us, bang, bang, bullet hit my chest, feel no pain
To my left, the captain caught a bullet right in his brain
Body parts flyin', loss of limbs, explosions
Bad intentions, I see my best friend's intestines
Pray to the one above, it's raining, I'm covered in mud
I think I'm dyin', I feel dizzy, I'm losin' blood
I see my childhood, I'm back in the arms of my mother
I see my whole life, I see Christ, I see bright lights
I see Israelites, Muslims and Christians at peace, no fights
Black, Whites, Asians, people of all types
I must've died, then I woke up, surprised I'm alive
I'm in a hospital bed, they rescued me, I survived
I escaped the war, came back, but ain't escape Agent Orange
Two of my kids born handicapped
Spastic, quadriplegia, micro cephalic
Cerebral palsy, cortical blindness, name it, they had it
My son died, he ain't live, but I still try to think positive
'Cause in life, God take, God give
"

R.A. absolutely blacks out on that first part. thing is, this is a true story..

everyone needs to check this track, his flow and delivery is flawless, story is just nuts.
