Faux Tuck - Amjack?

It's where they tuck their (usually) tee shirt just in the front, behind the belt.

As long as the shirt doesn't hang too far below the waistline I see nothing wrong with this. tucking your shirt in without a suit or shirt and tie is too preppy and @$$hole-ish. The faux tuck accomplishes much of what the mullet tried to do "serious in the front, party in the back," but with much more versatility. I am guilty of the faux tuck at times. It allows your pants to be seen in their entirety, reveals the belt, and makes you look taller I think. I have to be wearing a non standard belt though. I also center the faux tuck around the buckle, doing it off to the side or with a baggy shirt adds little to the ensemble, if not takes away. It can be done, but choose wisely. The line between AmJack and metrosexuality is thin.

Do AmJacks wear short enough shirts to do this? I'd imagine that they would think of it as being too 'gay'.

Tuck it in all the way or leave it out all the way. Faux tucks are worse than purposefully making it look like you loosened your tie. Though maybe I shouldn't be talking, since I like a tie with buttondown collar points unfastened.

I dunno, I pretty much agree. The polar opposite of metro is probably a redneck who wears his hunting clothes to the bar, not a dude who wears tons of gel, stripey "fashionable" shirt, "fashionable" jeans, "fashionable" shoes, etc.

I tuck in my shirt before I got to bed so the tuck is properly mussed in the morning for my all-day just-got-out-of-bed dressed-up-dishevelled look. Only slightly hyperbolic; I do the messy tuck like I'm dashing out the backdoor.

You're thinking in terms of appearance - I'm thinking in terms of intent or personality.

One tends to think about style and grooming issues and take positions on this, generally ahead of the masses. He is often on top of fashion trends and wouldn't be caught dead wearing something that's so last month. He shops at Colette in Paris, Barneys or BG. He is probably already over Thom Browne by now

The other is simply a brain-dead follower, who has no idea or opinions about style or fashion and is simply following the trends that are fed to him (e.g. wearing an untucked striped shirt 7 years after the Paul Smith look). He buys the once-good ideas only when recycled to the nth degree and available at Old Navy, Gap or American Eagle.

I always thought the mullet was a product of ignorance and poor taste, I had no idea there was a certain goal in mind
