Hi everyone. Lurked around for quite a while but now have a question for you all. I am getting married this weekend(very excited). I met my father for lunch today and to my suprise he gave me my grandfathers pocket watch in which was passed down to him. I am very fond of family "heirlooms" no matter the quality. I am just honored and excited that he would give it to me. Here comes my question.....I fully intend to incorporate the watch into my outfit for this weekend, even if it is just sitting in my pocket. I am wearing a two button suit. I understand that its quite uncommon to wear a pocketwatch this way but am looking for any advice or ideas. I also was hoping someone could Identify the watch and provide some history. I tried searching but really had no luck. Anything would be helpfull from you guys.

The pictures are crappy and from my iphone
The brand is Hollands. Under the flowers it says 17 jewels in cabloc.

Any input is appreciated. Just excited to share it with everyone http://img820.imageshack.us/i/watch1.png/ http://img651.imageshack.us/i/watch2h.png/ http://img823.imageshack.us/i/watch3.png/

Oddly enough, we just talked about this on another thread:

http://www.styleforum.net/showthread...highlight=fobs

I knew a slick attorney back in the 90s. He would put his pocket watch in his breast pocket (behind his inevitably natty pocket square) and then run the chain up to his lapel hole (the chain running from the back, not the front). I certainly would not recommend the look for business, but for a wedding it could look really cool. Or maybe you want to get a cool vest for your wedding ensemble. Good luck.

If it is an heirloom, I will not comment further as it is deemed to have sentimental value.

However your comment makes little sense: What way?

It could be worn from your lapel into the out-breast pocket if you have a chain which is suitable. If you have a fob pocket in the trousers then you could wear it there (with chain) and thus display it if that is your question. Carry it in any pocket otherwise and then you at least will know you have it.

OK, this guy is getting married this week and he just had a nice moment with his father. In an effort to stop the ****** comments, I am going to start a "Is it OK to wear a black 4-button suit to a job interview" thread to draw your fire.

That's why they listed "time travel device" as the first item in their wedding gift registry.

Given the ciumstances ... I agree that you should have the watch on your person when you are married.

As pocket watches are not easily incorporated into current dress ... I leave the one I was given in a shallow blue & white bowl on my desk ... where it is kept wound and running. This way it plays a part in my everyday life.

That's actually a really traditional way to wear one, and would have been worn for business routinely back in the day. I think it looks silly, and looks like it would be really awkward to fish the watch out when you wanted the time.

I would go with clipping it to your waistband or belt and putting it in your trouser pocket, the watch pocket if you have one. That's exactly what they were made for.
