Fat cell distribution: did I wait too long to get in shape?

I was recently reading about fat cell distribution, which got me thinking...

When I was a kid (up until about age 8 or 9), I was really skinny. Then, all of a sudden, I got kind of pudgy. My weight would fluctuate a bit (I'd always lose weight from being really active in summers, then put it back on in the winter), but my BMI was usually pretty close to 25. Anyhow, I'm now 15 and recently got myself into much better shape; at the start of the summer, I was 192 lbs. and 6'0"; I'm now 149 lbs. and closer to 6'1". While I'm not covered in loose skin or anything, my body is probably a little less "tight" than you might expect from someone with my weight/height.

Is that just from skin taking a while to tighten up after rapid weight loss, or am I already old enough that my body can only shrink, but not actually get of fat cells?

Thanks much,
wmmk

Fat cells increase and decrease in size dependong on how much fat they store. They don't disappear or multiply really.

Could be loose skin or something but you're young and it'll tighten up. It's probably just fat.

How much time did that 192 to 149 took? Losing weight too quickly isn't good on any account. You're 15, you're still growing and developing my guess is that you can get away with a lot although you shouldn't do anything rash. Just eat healthy and exercice and all, it's common for people to gain some weight in the Winter because of lesser activity and the holidays filled with chocolate

About six and a half months. Was that too quickly?

BMI as an indicator doesn't work the same in children/teens as it does in adults:

Remember though that even in adults it's not always a great measure.

This is partially incorrect. Fat cells DO increase and decrease in size and it's TRUE they never disappear.

What is untrue (and unfortuntate) is that they do mulitply clear into adulthood. The fatter you get, the more they multiply. And they will never disappear.

No shit, that's why I didn't state it definitively.

English sentence structure is loose.: http://www.yourdictionary.com/not-really

Since I feel like arguing, apoptosis applies to fat cells as well (ie. they disappear).

It's a moot point anyway for a whole host of reasons I won't get into.

Just admit you were incorrect and instead of behaving like an adult, you pulled the asshole card instead.
