I could use some help gents. My girlfriend bought tickets for us to attend the Ebony Fashion Fair in mid november, and I am perplexed as to what to wear. From what I understand it is high fashion, and also a charity event. It is at 5:00 pm, and the only advice I have received about dress code is that I should "dress to the nines". Any advice pertaining to attire will be greatly appreciated.

Haha, I'm not being critical of your event, I just know the kind of answer you'll get here will be hilarious in that "40s Esquire meets accountant ready to paaaaaarrrtttty" kind of way.

Wear a nice suit. I went several years ago, and had a great time. People are indeed dressed nicely, thus a suit would be most appropriate.

fitted black suit + white FC shirt + black tie + black wholecuts + white pocket square is a safe choice indeed. If you're black and do bold colours well look at pictures of Ozwald Boateng for inspiration, some of his outfits are wacky but most are quite good.

Black suit is not appropriate. Perhaps something in midnight blue with a bit of drape, some spit shined black captoes and the old club tie. Man has to hold up the side, you know.

Ooops, sorry. I meant some tweed, a BB blue shirt and brown wingtips (english makers only). Rep tie not optional.

Do not confuse the man. Wear something like you would wear to an interview. You can find it at Jos. A. Bank. Perhaps something natty like this:

Thank you for the quick responses. It's looking like a suit.
