I'm in a position to have a blazer or two made bespoke, and since this is not likely to be affordable or convenient for me in the near future, my priority is versatility.
I'm looking for a casual fabric that can be worn in summer, but which would not be out of place with extra layering in winter. My guess is worsted wool, but when I think of that, I think of glossy business suits; can you recommend textured, casual weaves, or other fabrics I may have overlooked?

Look for fabrics that are described as hopsack, birdseye or basketweave. These are all cloths that have been woven with distinctive textures that set them apart from "normal" suiting fabrics.

Don't forget that the configuration can also make a blazer more casual; using light horn buttons, patch pockets and swelled seams can all work towards a more casual jacket even in a twill cloth.

It would be good to discus the cloth choices with your tailor, they will be able to give you some good advice. Also, consider collecting together a few photographs illustrating what you like, and try to round off your ideas before you start the process.
