hi guys.

due to a number of alarming and extremely basic posts in the RFT thread, my hand has been forced.

I open this emporium to beautiful, wild and strange ****. please feel free to join me in unleashing upon the simple befuddled dudes of this forum any and all examples of unconventional, enormous coats and jackets, old man steeze, flowing (but not goth-ninja) oversized garments, and potentially questionable vintage or recent prints, patterns, or styling.

This is the thread in which we explore the intersection of oversized silhouettes, streetwear, obscene bold and interesting graphics logos and labels, and unusual, silly, gross or sophisticated clothing details that would make responsible buyers gasp and leave your average fashion bro unimpressed, head-scratching and/or dumb founded.

While I welcome you guys to post some of the usual suspects (Yohji, Issey, Comme, mid 2000's Raf, some Dries etc) there are specific threads for most of that, so I'd like to encourage people to post relatively lesser known stuff. However I'm not gonna argue with some good Yohj in here so don't be shy!

I will start us off with some choice cuts. I also chose not to use any runway shots in this initial post but I welcome those as well.

I have no idea why people find this so hard. Let's just take this picture you showed, which I think is pretty typical of the mid 80s:

It's just an adjustment of the proportions, and it's something that's been going on in women's wear for a few years now, which is to balance the volume on the top with a long, structured, waist. And in general, the pants were quite volumnious as well. Certainly, this was Armani's early silhouette, which is still done to some degree today. Wide shoulders and a pinched waist, with high rise, and often not just a hig waist, but as you can see here, in the combination of the wide ribbing on the jacket and the pants, a long waist. For womenswear, the ubiquitous look in LA is a voluminous cropped top with high rise cigarette jeans, but the more sophisticated version nearly always has a volume in the bottom as well.

I think that a more popular current silhouette is to have an A shape, longer than waist level. combined with a slim bottom. Ervell and Schneider seem to like to do this. It is a much more androgynous shape than I see here, and seems to take a lot from the "geek chic" looks from early 2000 Prada. I personally think that it's a more limited look than say, 80s Armani, and I think that it's interested to see dudes who are built like Bene (as opposed to the taller, more angular, skinnier, ARW) attempt this.

80's Armani is so good. It's unreal. Does anyone make that silhouette these days? Real silent killer steez. Real ninjas would wear.

For a time, post backlash Damir had some similarities with 80s Armani, it's an avowed influence after all (much to the chagrin of many). Who knows what he's doing these days...

That Vanotti guy has some stuff that would look right at home in those Armani shoots.

oh man, then lucio vanotti has something for you as well-- for fw15 he made some oversized jackets and trousers using a really wide-wale cord fabric. the corner doesn't have any of it (yet?), but check out guya firenze
