I have received a couple of high quality nearly new suits which are ideal fits apart from the trouser waist being much too small and there is not quite enough extra fabric inside the centre seam to let out the required extent. I have stretched the waistband a little but still need an extra 2.5" around the waist and there is only about 1.5" available. The seat/hips fit well so the previous owner clearly had a tiny waist and I, erm, do not.
Rather than dispose of the suits are there any ways to add some extra fabric (even elastic?) to the waist, either adding a wedge to the back or possibly wedges at the side seams? I have plenty of the same cloth excess under the trouser hems as the trousers need to be shortened. I know this will look like a bit of a mess around the waisband but the suits are in dark conservative cloths and the back and sides of the waist will be covered by a belt and a jacket when the suit is worn, so I think this is manageable.
