Experience with Colhay's?

Has anyone here ordered from Colhay's? Search came up with zero results!

The site says their two models are both wearing S with chests of 37.8" and 39.5", but they are 6' 2" and 5'11" respectively, and the photos, while nice, can make it difficult to establish the actual fit of the sweaters.

I'm on the fence between S and M sizes. 5'9", 165 lbs, 39.5" chest. Leaning towards S. Just looking for any experienced feedback out there.

Thanks!

Hi there, it's Ronnie at Colhay's here. I know you are probably wanting to hear back from somebody who has bought from us before but thought I would try to help out the best I can as well. We are a relatively new brand (we launched last September) hence the reason for the lack of discussion on the forum. If you are looking at the basic range of cashmere and superfine lambswool crew necks and v necks, then I'd recommend you go for a size small. Our model with the 39.5" chest (Rob) wears the size S. It may feel a little snug to begin with, but it does conform to your body shape over time - something that Rob has found. As your height and Rob's are only 2 inches apart, there needn't be any concern about the knitwear being too long. Sorry that the pictures aren't very instructive regarding sizing as yet, something we are looking to rectify with more studio photos later this year. If you have any other questions or if you wish to discuss further, please feel free to contact us directly.

Huh, interesting to find you here.

I'm actually a Chinese American here, looking for a soft, rugged sweater that fits. I'm not partial to cashmere as a material, so I'm just wondering:

as a 6'2" guy with a 40" chest, would 44 be the best fit for me?

How's the handfeel of the material compared to Andersen-Andersen?

Hi there

Thanks for the message. Just to check, is your chest circumference 40", so around 102cm? If so, I would say our size M/40 would be the best fit for you.

I don't have any experience with Andersen-Andersen, I'm afraid, but I think with Scottish cashmere - you will find that whilst it is very soft, it is also very resilient - there is almost a "crispness" to the material on first touch that you wouldn't find with other cashmere makers, and this is a good sign. It means the cashmere hasn't been over-washed and it will soften naturally with age, lasting decades if well cared for. This kind of cashmere is a bit rarer today, but was more common place before the 1980s when cashmere garments were truly a luxury product and they were largely produced to the highest standards by heritage makers. You may have come across it in high end vintage shops, sometimes you find cashmere cardigans from the 1960s made by old Scottish knitting mills still in fantastic condition - the cashmere we offer is made by the same people with that same longevity in mind.

Do let me know if you have any other questions.

Hello,
For an 176cm(5.8feet), with 99.5cm in chest you would recommend size S?
In general for my height i like to wear knits that are not longer than 66cm back length
Im guessing with your cashmere, will become softer (Italian level, with time, after 2-3 washes?! )
In general i have from Colombo and Brunello Cucinelli and those were very soft from the start

Thank you in advance

Hi there

That's right, think with those measurements, I would recommend size S. With regards the cashmere, that's right, after 2 - 3 wears and hand washes, the cashmere will soften a lot, but it does so naturally, which is the important thing here, because softening naturally is what gives the garment longevity.

Not in answer to any question on sizing but just a thumbs-up for a great value product line. I have three pieces so far, in lambswool. Very taken with the colours and the styling. Subtly different without looking outlandish. Ronnie has been a pleasure to deal with. In particular I like trousers with a fairly high rise and the sweaters (jumpers) suit that very well.

I just checked, correction: I have the crewneck sweater in oatmeal (not in current stock), the fisherman rollneck in olive, both in lambswool. The third piece (the sports shirt) is in merino wool, not lambswool. Very happy with each.

I am on the fence about buying a shawl collar cardigan from Colhays. I am really in awe in the level of detail the team has put to demonstrate how much care there is for the product as a whole, from the yard to the buttons.

It comes at a cost, and other shops offer more competitive prices. I am, nonetheless, conscientious that Colhays may offer a much superior product though. I really like the horn buttons as opposed to the leather ones.
For the competition, there is H.N. White - quite likely outsourced, Cording's and William Lockie.

What is your experience with the brand? Has your knitwear aged well?

I bought one of their submariner rollnecks last year and have nothing but good things to say about it. It's unbelievably soft and plush without making me get overheated when I was wearing it indoors either. Still looks good as new despite repeated wears.

Thank you kindly for your input.

I had a feeling that Colhay's would offer excellent knitwear / jumpers.
It is funny how it comes across as a very old brand yet it is fairly recent.

@colhays I'm interested in the painter's shawl collar cardigan. Can you guide me on sizing?
Normally, I'd go with M/40 for most stuff. This one shows to size up.
I wonder how trim is it, should I size up to 42 or 44?

By looking at the measurement compared to my other cardigan, it feels like 42 should be good.

Last, any plan for bringing in more color option for this piece?

Very happy with my recent purchase, the cashmere crew neck in navy. Definitely follow Colhay's advice and take your best fitting sweater's pit-to-pit measurements to determine your size. I'm a solid 42 across most brands and went with a 46 (XXL).
