I'm looking to buy a wedding suit and came across a London based site/shop called 'thedrop.co'. Has anyone had any experience using it? Unfortunately the name is pretty hard to search/google because all you get are results about, well, 'THE drop'. So any knowledge would be much appreciated. At first glance, I'm pretty sceptical given they don't have anywhere you can get measured in person.

Yes, I've used The Drop for a couple of suit purchases. They're a fairly new London-based online MTM company comparable to the likes of Oliver Wicks or Hockerty; they've featured in the UK media a couple of times recently and on a fashion blog called The Chic Geek -http://www.thechicgeek.co.uk/item/465-tried-tested-the-drop

As ever with online MTM companies, your result will depend on the accuracy of your measurements and your communication with the team at the firm. The two guys I dealt with, Jonathan and Jeremy, were pretty responsive on email. And also as ever with online MTM, the first suit will probably need some changes at a local alterations tailor, but subsequent orders should be better. I'm pleased with the two they made for me, at any rate.

There are a few quirks in the The Drop's business model. They offer only one fabric, a mid-weight Australian wool, and I don't think their website is quite as smooth or as functional as Oliver Wicks'. Their standard suit is fused, but they will make you a half- or fully-canvassed suit on request (both of mine are fully canvassed).

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
