I saw a fountain pen with really nice wood. It made me wonder, what does SF think of wooden pens, anybody here a fan?

Who makes good wooden pens?

In general, I'm not a fan.

Omas made a series of very nice wood pens a few years ago, but for the most part, the wood pens I've seen have never looked as elegant as pens made from celluloid or resin.

I have owned two wooden pens, and unfortunately, they aren't designed for any real amount of functional use. I had the wood chipping within a few months, if I recall.

If it were something just to look at, then perhaps.

I imagine some could have nice, small inlays, into celluloid that might look good, and be useable at the same time.

I usually like what Faber-Castell does with wood.

Everything seems penultimate to Hakase, though. I haven't seen many good photos of their pens, but the catalogue looks amazing and recently a member of FPN posted theirs. The ordering process is as close to bespoke as pens get, with writing angle considered and such.

Here's the mentioned member's pen, his photo. The threads are wood! Made from cocobolo.

Some of the Graf von Faber-Castells with wood bodies are quite handsome, I don't know how hard/durable they are...

Second (or third) the mention of Faber-Castell fountain pens.
They have a range which includes a couple of wooden-barrelled fountain pens which are quite attractively detailed.
As has been mentioned above, though, I'm not sure of how durable they would be.

I received a wooden pen as a gift. I don't like it and no longer use it.

I'm not sure where it is now. It may be in my desk drawer at work but I haven't even thought about the pen until this thread.

I own the two Omas ones made from the oak barrel at Krug and Ch. Lafite. Beautiful pens. Not because I'm a pen lover but because these are two of my favourite wines.
