Excessive Toe Wear, Toe Tap?

I recently got a pair of Brooks Brothers oxfords. They are made by BB's Italian manufacturer so it's not AE or Alden, and the people at BB doesn't know who made them either.

Anyways, I have wore these shoes for 6 times since I got them (about a month and a half) and am seeing excessive wear on the toes. The second time I wore these shoes was in a wet climate (not during a rain storm, but after it has rained so the soles did get extremely wet) but I allowed them to dry out for over a week before I wore them again.

Can someone offer an opinion as to whether this kind of wear is excessive and whether I should get toe taps? Or should I simply wear out this sole and resole it with J. Redenbach soles? Does anyone think this kind of wear is normal?

Two years later, and it looks like no one responded... What did you end up doing? Toe taps, steel plates, tapy, or nothing?
I know this is one of those classic questions. It depends on how you personally walk, how the shoe is constructed, walking conditions, whether the shoe is brand-new or well broken in, and much much more.
