Hi there,

I still need to get 2 extra suits for my work. I have browsed through many web sites, but it seems pretty difficult to get the good (40R, NWT) suits for around 400USD.

Are there any people who can give me some advise where the good brands (Zegna, Isaia, Armani Black Label, Baldesserini) are listed for very low prices? I just don't seem to be able to find these items!!!

Please help me,

Mike

Corneliani can often be found for about $400 on Sierra Trading Post. Great suit at a great price. (STP is a great source in general.)

Less well made but still nice, Polo blue label can be had new at stores such as Marshalls and on eBay for $300-$400 regularly.

I was under the impression that blue label was made by Corneliani.

It is, but to a lower standard than the mainline Corneliani stuff. A lot of high-end makers make for other labels, but to the quality level specified by that label. Grenson, for example, makes better quality shoes for Paul Stuart than it sells under its own badge.

Thanks, how is the fit of Corneliani? Any other advise is of course appreciated (thai is other brands and online stores)!

The best RTW suit I own was an Isaia purchased at STP for $550.

Corneliani works really well for the tall and thin. In general, it's a very lean silhouette. Older models are boxy, but the newer ones are much less so. It's less built up than, say, Brioni, and less fitted than some high-end Zegna. Corneliani sleeves, when unaltered, tend to be on the long side, adding to the lean effect. On suits, the shoulders are usually roped, and moderately padded. It's stylish enough to be interesting, but conservative enough to wear most anywhere.

For sizing comparison, a 38R Corneliani fits me almost perfectly off the rack, while I take a 39R in most Brooks offerings and even a 40R in some Polo blue label.

I do agree ...Corneliani is offering a clear cut on the lean side...
Canali trousers ,for example ,tend to be a bit wider....
I really like Corneliani and i do wear every week my chocolate suit bought 7 years ago ....
I bought on the sole advice of the sales advisor as they call themselves nowadays!!!!
I was looking for Canali or Zegna and i bought a Corneliani....
Best investment ever regarding the price paid!!!!
The construction, the cut and material are good and at a very decent price.....
I did pay $800 7 years-ago and the suit was on sales...
What about a Pal Zileri on sales?

Ok, what about the following (maybe not so fair) comparisons:
  • Corneliani vs Baldesserini
  • Corneliani vs Canali
  • Corneliani vs Armani Collezioni
  • Corneliani vs Armani Black Label
  • Corneliani vs Gianluca Isaia

reputedly a very tight tussle, but suspect Canali out of your price range anyhow. Corneliani is also out of your price range, but as Doc points out (many many times

) it can be had very cheaply on STP and is accordingly considered one of the best buys for your budget.

Probably Isaia, but you cant afford it. More important than every single thing anyone has posted above it how it fits you. A three-size-too-big Kiton is no better for you than a perfectly fitting piece of Mens Wearhouse junk. Sure, it cost more and is better made, but it looks like crap on you, move on. Ditto above, for example Ive said that I consider Corneliani better than the Armanis, but if you can get an Armani for under $400 - doubtful since you paying their marketing budget - and the Armani fits you like it is made for no one else, then go with it....

So Corneliani is better value (for those who can fit the cut) but slightly less fitted than mainline Zegna? Is it fair to say that Corneliani is the best value in the 3rd tier identified in this thread: http://styleforum.net/showthread.php...e=3#post255809 ...And the best low-priced canvas construction?

What about the asian tailors? Don't a couple of them come for measuring sessions reguarly? My friend has been telling me countless number of times to come with him to get my clothes tailored with this tailor, but I've never tried, but his suits have always turned out well and it costed him around the $400 mark i think.

I'd be skeptical of itinerant Asian tailors that offer "custom" suits for $400 or thereabouts. I doubt if the quality would be remotely comparable to a Corneliani purchased at the same price.

I am one of the forum's foremost fans of W.W. Chan, but their suits are now starting in the vicinity of $1,000 or more...sad to say, since their "specials" were only about $740 a scant 2 1/2 years ago.

on what basis would you compare them? if your goals is to find out what is BEST for you, then that depends completely cut and fit. each of those suits above have different cuts and fits.

for example, i would never wear a corneliani. but canali and armani, in my opinion, have great cuts and fit, at least for me. i should also add that the armani black label, collezioni, and mani, all have basically the same cut. i challenge anyone to tell which is which merely by eyeing them.
